VAS heavy hitters

Hello folks,

I have been impressed so far with P3Dv3 and its improved VAS management. Over the weekend I did get some OOMs, flying the PMDG777 from AS EGLL to FT OMDB. I recently added FTX Vector and thought it might be these that toppled it over. I have the P3Dv3 settings up fairly high, following Rob's guidelines. For vector I only have primary and secondary roads ticked (no underlays etc) and everything else ticked except frozen water.

So a couple of questions:

1) Have folks experienced OOMs since installing FTX Vector 1.3?

2) Which vector options cause high VAS usage?
3) Which of the settings in P3Dv3 most influence VAS i.e. which settings should I play with to reduce VAS likelihood?

Thank you.

Jonathan

Most of the complaints come from installing vector itself..if you fly airliners you dont need most of the options that vector provides like secondary and tertiary roads, etc..if you need to have vector then disable all the secondary options and just keep the top options..like you dont need tunnels, rivers etc.

For me vector is a strict no-no when flying airliners..i havent even installed it

I did my first full-fat flight this weekend from London to Toronto in P3Dv3.

Aerosoft's EGLL,  FTX Global/Vector, and the PMDG777.    Reasonable framerates (between 20-30 at EGLL) and no OOM's.  I disabled all secondary options in Vector, but for me the Vector coastlines and water bodies are a must.

Great flight.

Yesterday, I threw caution to the wind and performed a flight from CYVR to CYYZ, which worked out to about a 4 hour flight.  I utilized FTX OpenLC NA/Canada, with ActiveSkyNext and flew an Airbus A321.  I experienced some stutters departing CYVR, since it is a very scenery heavy area, and some slight stutters arriving at CYYZ, but both airports were default ORBX.  This was the first time I flew such a long flight with v3, and was concerned about VAS along the way, but everything performed just fine and even after the flight was over with, I exited out of P3D with no issue whatsoever.  I maintained overall, a steady 30fps, with slight drops over CYVR and CYYZ respectively.

I have to chime in with an off topic comment though, CYYZ modelled by ORBX is pretty nice.  A whole lot more accurate than default, which is surprising that the ORBX crew took the time to model out an international airport so well.  CYVR looked pretty good as well, but I didn't pay too close attention to it as I was more concerned about getting on with the flight.

I should also mention that I ran all of this off my laptop, air cooled i7-4790k w/GTX 980M graphics.  I am very happy now. :)

I don't do long haul flights, but I do fly the PMDG 737NGX "low and slow" over photoscenery, around dense scenery areas, and into very detailed airports with lots of detailed AI planes active. I have yet to see an OOM in P3D v3.

On a side note, does anyone else see the AI plane taxi lights switching on and off when they move/stop on the ground? I use Ultimate Traffic 2 with almost completely updated schedules, models, and textures.

So you had no problems getting UT2 to work in P3D. Would you mind explaining how you installed it? Secondly the latest schedule I have that was from F1 was I think winter 2103 I believe. Has there been a later one created that use updated liveries?

I can't remember exactly what I did, but there is a tutorial on YouTube that explains it. As for the schedules, I only fly around the UK and Ireland. Over the last few years I have updated (or added) virtually all of the main airlines that I can find that fly in and out of this region of the world. New flightplans and aircraft models added through PowerPack, and then repaints added with the Ultimate Traffic 2 utility itself. Hard, time consuming work, but it has paid off big time for me.
