There's no altitude sensation in P3D/FSX

Recommended Posts

Yes and when we see in xplane that simple effect make a lot of difference.

Its just a blue filter that increases with the distance.

I think the guys from REX studio should look at this.

Hooolly.... That's Xplane today!? Looks great!

Can you post another one at FL350 or greater?

I can't speak for FSX/P3D, but I've found that setting cockpit zoom to 0.65 and visibility to 3000 in every box within FSUIPC offers a very realistic perspective in FS9

Well, simulated atmospheric scattering is a bit more complicated than that, it requires implementing several formulas that approximate the real scattering of light in the atmosphere, it being a function not only of distance, but also of sun elevation, altitude, angle of view, etc., so a simple "blue filter" would give less nice results.

to achieve the effect of altitude must limit visibility, udted vera which is best likes and altitude range of visibility

I agree with the OP, I always felt that the MSFS family has done a terrible job with altitude perception. XP10 does a great job on the other hand, especially when you have a heavy cloud layer and see some ground poking though, you really feel high up. The new DCS Edge does a great job too

Hi Xender, YES I totally agree with you ! Recreating your picture would be imossible, cloud textures are way too big in p3d.

The X-Plane shots look good, but I'd be interested in seeing those same shots without the Ortho scenery.

I have a feeling that's selling the altitude perception quite a bit.

Side note:

Man XPX clouds are really not my cup of tea.

That looks like shaving cream puffs or something..

The sensation you're talking about is mostly due to atmospheric scattering (simplifying a lot, this means that far things veer towards a blue/white tone).

Seems to work fine on my system (FSX/DX10 fixer)

Those are not caused by atmospheric scattering, those are clouds.

Thanks
