fsx-ms Looking for a good regional jet/turboproop

Hi all. I did a break from my usal GA flying. Recently i was using the default CRJ, with some liveries and sounds that i find. I'm having a great time flying on full fat ORBX regions with out worring about VAS, FPS etc, taking off Seattle. 

 

But now i'm looking for something better. I'm not interested on FMC and hardcore simulation (surely, soon or later i will end up buying Majestic Q400 or the AS CRJ). I want to get airbone fast, use default ATC and program my flight route with the default flight planner, don't bother with navigraph or simbrief. Just to enjoy the simulation and scenery.

 

So I'm looking for a "carenado" style regional jet. Maybe you know something freeware (could be payware, but i debout i will buy anything) with better textures, VC and sounds. A more polish aircraft or even mods for the default ones.

 

I was thinking on the QW146, but i will wait a bit.

There's not a lot to choose from, but for freeware you can scroll down to the bottom of this page and you'll find a nice Hawker 800 and a couple of DH/HS 125s.

The Q400 is a wonderfully simulated regional prop and can squeak into even the shortest (within reason) airfields. Unlike the bigger iron, you can also operate it quite happily without even turning on the FMS. That said - and I know you said you aren't interested in the FMS side of it - but once the penny has dropped with the wonderful world of navigation then you'll wonder how you got on without it. Flying SIDS and STARS is simplicity itself in a fully equipped RNAV capable aircraft like the Dash and you'll find it so much easier to embrace flying a bit more realistically with real world routes than the clonky FS nav database.

 

Banging out a Simbrief flight plan takes 30 seconds. Inputting that into the FMS takes 60 seconds, max. Yes, it can get more complicated with big airports that have literally dozens of SIDS and STARS for multiple runways but the whole point of the Dash is to fly to fun places that often have minimal aids. Some bloke also made a really good tutorial course for it  

 

That aside, the QW 146 is a nice little aircraft, but the RJ version you also get with it would need you to embrace the FMS side of things to operate.

If you want something regional and simple to operate and not at/near study sim level, you are probably best off with the QW146, well made and can be flown simply or (as mentioned) more complex if you want to try out the FMS of the RJ.  QW also do a 757 which is nice, but a bit less ameanable to quick and easy flying.

 

However, I know you sort of ruled it out, but if you want to know what I really think you should get, take a look at my signature banners.  Hint:  It rhymes with "crash"....  :wink:

You might like to take a look at Just Flight's Fokker F27. It's nicely done with plenty of detail but is simple to fly (no FMS) and gives very good frame rates.

Just "really good"???  Don't sell yourself short.  It's the best tutorial videos for any aircraft, bar none!!!   :smile:

 

If you even remotely think of getting something in the regional category and can maybe some day even see yourself wanting to get really in depth, get the Dash8 and the Airline2Sim videos!!  You won't be disappointed at all.  It doesn't get any better than these two products!!!!

Later i will buy the Q400 or the AS CRJ. For now, i stay with freeware ones.

Look for Edgar Guinart's EMB-110. It's a portover from FS9, but packs a bit of punishment if you don't treat it correctly.
 
There's also Milton Shupe's Dash 7, which gets into and out of just about every airfield on the planet and was a hot seller before the Dash 8 came along (soh_dhc7x.zip, soh_dhc7x_sp.zip).
 
I've done a Convair 580, which was equally popular as a puddle jumper before everyone wanted RJs (https://sites.google.com/site/fsxstuffbybk/aircraft/convair-580).
The Fokker 27 needs no introduction, I guess (https://sites.google.com/site/fsxstuffbybk/aircraft/fokker-27-family).

Is the HS748 too small? Try the NAMC YS-11. Still a portover and I'm not sure if it needs any mods to work in FSX, but still worth a look. (ys11_afr.zip or ys1ana27.zip at Flightsim)
