Looks great but pardon my ignorance, why such the big difference with the mouse? Is this par for the course with FSX? Again sorry but I use XP.

Yeah, it's a well known FSX issue, which is why it was mentioned. Google around for "FSX mouse cursor FPS drop" and you'll see plenty.

Looking absolutely wonderful. Thanks for the peek inside the flight deck on the v2. As always with any preview, my cc starts getting warm  lol. I'm looking forward to adding this to my collection. Will we have to uninstall the older 747 in order to install this new version? And also will it function with the OPS Center like the 777 and 737? Manually installing those liveries from the older versions wore out my left mouse button.

I heard that in the latest FSX Steam version, Dovetail managed to improve a little bit this issue.

Do you know if Robert tested it with the latest version?

Matias,

On my list of things to do while digesting copious amounts of holiday food is to put the 744/748 into Steam see how it performs...

I may not have the time- but we shall see.  We do all of the FSX development in the retail version of FSX since it is a "limiting factor."

James,

Looks fantastic--thanks for sharing this!

Also especially appreciate the FPS comparison. Along the same lines, any information you can share on VAS footprint and how that compares to existing PMDG products? I know for me (and I suspect many others) that's actually a much more critical concern than framerates at this point in the history of our simulator (since you can always keep flying with choppy FPS but an OOM is the end of the line).

James

Good point.  I'll work up some VAS numbers as well.  When I last checked, the 747 was slightly below the 777- but that was some time ago.  Overall I anticipate them being about the same, as we tightly constrain VAS growth...

rcladin,

thankyou RSR for the update and looks very nice and can't wait to purchase, I've noticed your frames dropping 40-50% when mouse active, which i find odd, i'll typically only get about 10% difference? any else get that kind of variance?

nice x-mas box  hopefully

I suspect the large fps drop has something to do with the fact that I am running the sim on a desktop that is comprised of two 2560x1600 screens.  The FPS drop has to do with the way in which FSX scans the displayed area for interactions of the mouse with various click-spots...  The larger the area displayed, the harder the sim has to work...

Jamie,

Looking good, getting genuinely excited about this

As a couple of posters have mentioned, do you include Aerowinx in that comparison?  If so, and you are stating that you expect it to be on-par or in excess of Aerowinx technical accuracy, then colour me impressed...

Hardy is highly deserving of everyone's respect because he has created an exceptional simulation of the airplane as a single developer working through an incredibly complex development process.  I own both versions of his simulation, much as I own copies of just about everything that comes out in the FSX market because I am a firm believer in supporting other developers.  That being said, I stand by my assertion.

I am sure someone will run off to other locals with their hair on fire trying to paint this comment as "Rob is talking sh&t about PSX!" but I am not.  I am merely stating what I believe to be true of our platform based upon our resources and our error checking process.  Your mileage may vary.

Rodeny,

Good work gents. Wondering what sound pack you guys will use with the 748i....

As I mentioned in the larger post, we record them directly from the airplane and the sounds are then processed and prepared by our own in house sound engineer in his studio.  With each product we build a custom sound prioritization engine so that the layering and volume of sounds inside the flight deck winds up matching the experience you would get sitting in the seat.  It is a very complex process- but we think it is worth the time and cost.

Unbelievable attention to detail! I dobted that one could improve upon the 777 or 737 but you guys did it!

One question, though (and I know how nitpicky this sounds) - is there any reason why the carpet in the cockpit is blue and not rather brown, like it is in most 747's in the real world?
