The two things I took away from that video were HD Trees and the Soft Cloud setting he prefers. Everything else is highly subjective to your PC's hardware and I know a lot of folks are going to run out and slam their sliders like he did and wonder why their FPS is in the drain. Hopefully everyone understands that these are not universal 'Holy Grail' settings that everyone can use. Not everyone can use these. I know I can't because I prefer 80% AI traffic to his no traffic which murders the CPU but I still get a nice 25-30 FPS at payware airports with it dipping lower in bad weather scenarios. We still can't 'have it all'. You have to cut out somewhere. For me, it's 1k textures with mostly high slider settings, no car traffic, 80% AI traffic in UT2 and cloud and terrain shadows off.

Now.. when those two 980ti's are in my system or that new video card coming in 6 months that has the power of two titans SLI'd... we shall re-evaluate the settings ^_^

I played around with Matt's settings last night and found that my compromise is the same as yours. AI Traffic. I was seeing about 18-33FPS at KSFO with add-on when AI Traffic and Cars were 0%. When I set the AI Traffic and Cars to my prepared settings of to 30% and 15%, I would see about 12-20FPS.

I didn't see that much difference between High and Medium Scenery Effects settings. I still saw the most impart from adjusting Traffic settings and Scenery Objects.

I want to use this Thread to thank Matt and Rob (amongst a lot of other guys).

You two guys helped me the most entering the P3D world. Matt with videos, Rob with settings and help here in the forum.

By only watching Matts videos I learned how to plan flights with PFPX, load them into the 777 and get everything in this complex aircraft to work!

And thanks to Rob it even looks good :D

Thanks again guys.

Great work you are doing.

water

My Water option slider is grayed out. Would you know why is that?

Thanks.

Do you have tessellation off?

Do you have tessellation off?

Yes, I noticed that when I turn it on it will enable that slider, so that's it, right?!

Unfortunately Tessellation subtracts quite a bit of FPS from my system, I still have to assess how PMDG Boeing 777 will behave in the environment so that I can make the final adjustments... Should I keep it off I suppose I will have to deal with that "dead" water... :-(

I tried the settings Matt used since I have similar hardware.  I Tried it with ORBX England and UK2000 airport flying the Majestic Q400 with stormy weather provided by ASN and I maxed out on VAS when i was just departing.  I also use 1K textures for clouds using REX TD plus Soft Clouds.

Not sure what to do besides turning down scenery sliders...

The video at the beginning of this thread has some differences on the graphics settings. When I tried copying them I noticed this. His video on the settings he uses is not based on v3.2. Thus need to be circumspect with Matt's settings if you are running the current version. If the graphics settings interface has been updated with new options/sliders, the back end probably has been updated too, possibly making some of this obsolete already.
