Carenado annual sale... which one?

Recommended Posts

Well, I saw Carenado's sale event, and now I have a dilemma: which one should I buy? I'm thinking about the 182RG for FS9

I already have the M20J and the C208. I still keep the Mooney in my sim; however, because of the poor framerate in the VC and the not-so-convincing FDE, I uninstalled the Caravan. I'm not sure if the latest Carenado releases present this very same issue.

Any other recommendations?

Go for it, one of my favorites. Default paints are not so good, there is a photoreal paint available at the sim outhouse which is really great!

I bought the RG and the Seneca at last year's sale. This year I bought the C152, C185, and the Piper Arrow IV .My new favorite is the Arrow IV. The RG is fun but I love the Arrow IV. I had the same frame rate problem with the Caravan and it is, so far, the only Carenado plane that presented that problem for me and I don't have it in my hangar either.

Get the ancient 172 and adapt RealAir's freeware FDE to work with it. It's in the library, ras172_fs9.zip. Sorta follow the readme but use the Carenado model instead. I think the Skyhawk is on sale for something like $5, the FDE is free so for 5 bucks you get something that rivals A2A's $50 airplane. Unless of course you're not into low & slow...

I also liked the Arrow IV a lot. The 182 RG didn't really do it for me. There's a turbo mod somewhere around here (Avsim or flightsim.com, can't remember) though that gives you a bit more haulassability, that makes it a little more interesting.

Cessna RG, I really like CC-KSL. Wish that I could read the RG tail logo though, it seems to be a bit blurry and flickers. Fun bird though. Anyone seen a repaint with the same colors with a U.S. registration?

The 182Q is fun as well. There is a nice metal/gray repaint for it. N2457P in the Six-Pack repaints (c182q_sixpack.zip) by Urs Burkhardt. Good looking bird...

I was surprised which quality even the old Piper Cherokee and Beech Mentor have. But anyway, I'd recommend the C185.

I just started getting back into FS9 from a few years away from the app and was wondering what you guys think of the quality of the Carenado planes. They are quite the bargain and it might be worth it to get a few.

Some are real good. Some are average. Some are below average.

They're REAL cheap now so it doesn't matter. Grab heaps and sift through what you like and don't like.

Unfortunately my two daughters are doing their best to help me figure out how I can spend my millions. I must say they are black belts in that arena so I have to watch my spending a bit.

So, which ones would y'all say to avoid?

Hi, I bought the F33 yesterday (for not even $5!), but unfortunately I'm a little disappointed. It looks, sounds and performs not as good as the older A36 by Dreamfleet and also not as good as Carenado's C185 and even the quite old PA-28. Strange...

Got the C182 RG and the C172. There's something that does not convince me about the 172, but Jim Robinson's advice changed my opinion a bit. Now I need to get a better eyepoint for these aircraft. Anyway, if I'm still not convinced with the C172, paying $9 for the C182 is still a steal...
