Preparing to turn base, while releasing I accidentally left most of my scenery sliders to the right, explaining my sudden decrease in FPS as the entire city of London appears in 3D... but it looks good though!

Great pics and write up Philippe!  Those big GE90's deserve a break now.  Also nice to know someone out there takes more screenshots than I do B)

Nice shots.  Are those London buildings made by ORBX?  Must be a big drop in FPS ;-)  UTX Europe is much better IMHO.

Thanks for the comments!

As far as I know, they are the generic P3D buildings... I only have REX as a "graphical" addon, no ORBX! Unless my UK2000 EGLL included the city? I don't think it did.

Nice shots. As far as I know, SFO uses rwy 28R and L for landings even if winds favor landings on rwy 10. Also, 01 R and L is almost exclusively used for takeoff runways. But I once landed on 10R on a VATSIM flight after self-vectoring as well so...

I like the pictures Philippe! I have a basically identical system to yours and use many of the same addons; I was wondering what sort of frame rates and smoothness (in your judgment) do you get with P3D?

Thank you all!

I was wondering what sort of frame rates and smoothness (in your judgment) do you get with P3D?

Jim, it's hard to tell.. I haven't used an FPS monitor for a while, and honestly although I bought P3D v3 in October when it was released, I only really started using it about a week ago. I had only used FSX before.

In my opinion, I've never been happier! I haven't used FSX for several weeks, don't forget, but I feel like my simming has never been better than now. I am really happy, a part from the CTD I get on every single flight so far, but it's most likely me that screwed up at some point in the install a couple of months ago.

The FPS while on the ground in major airports (I only have UK2000 EGLL and KSFO FlightBeam for now) is fine for me, I haven't checked.. maybe 25-40 FPS? I do remember from my FSX days though, when I used to take-off, I sometimes got some really bad stutters on the take-off roll... I really hated that. It feels much smoother now.

On one of the flights from the pictures above, I discovered that having "cloud shadows" on in P3D made my frame-rate drop to like 10 FPS when it's full overcast in a busy airport, and in the PMDG 777. Just turning that option off gave me so much more smoothness, and it doesn't look THAT bad without cloud shadows, FSX doesn't even have them anyway!

TLDR: I am happy with the performance and smoothness, and the general LOOK of the sim just makes me want to never go back to FSX. I think it's mostly the lighting that makes me so happy.

Look at these 4 shots, first from FSX, and then from P3Dv3. FSX doesn't look BAD, but I find P3D's look much more satisfying...

I hope I kind of answer your question!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, in the pictures above (first post) with all the London buildings, I had forgotten my scenery density sliders fully right... I don't usually flight like that. In the VC, with all the buildings in clouds, I was getting 16-20FPS. I didn't mind landing with that framerate because it was still relatively smooth, and looked great on the screenshots! I haven't flown more than 4-5 full flights (12h+) in P3D yet, but I have had 0 OOMs. And I don't need to disable sceneries I don't fly over anymore. Everything is left ON.

Haha yes that definitely helped answer it! Glad to hear you like it so much, I'm considering switching over sometime soon
