Gigabyte GTX 970 Gaming - DRIVERS

Recommended Posts

Gentleman,

I upgraded to a GIGABYTE GTX 970 G1 GAMING graphics card.

My question, which driver should I use?

Should I use the one from the GIGABYTE website, which is currently version 353.62 or, can I download the drivers directly from NVIDIA, which is 361.43.

Personally, I would imagine that NVIDIA is better, but I am unsure if someone may have experienced any issues with this?

Thank you for your assistance.

Always from Nvidia. The manufactures driver will be out of date, often by a long way. Nvidia release new drivers on a very frequent basis, in order to fix issues and increase performance in many games.

Not always the case.

I upgraded to Windows 10, let Nvidia install the very latest drivers...................................and then promptly watched as I had a BSOD due to an Nvidia error. Microsoft Win 10 Forums recommended getting the stable driver from EVGA. Did so and  now no more BSODs, etc. That will do for me AFAIC.

I didn't say the latest driver is "always" the best driver. I said always install the latest from Nvidia.

If the latest driver causes issues for you then obviously you try a previous version. But the first port of call should be the latest driver.  It makes no sense to miss out on the latest bug fixes and performance gains if you don't have to.

Yes a driver from EVGA would have resolved your issue as it would have been a much older driver, but it's likely that a newer driver than the ancient EVGA driver would have mitigated the issue also. The drivers on the manufactures disc are usually very old.
