Just a general, "I'm having a blast", post :)

Recommended Posts

Ever since installing EVO2015 from Sascha, that seemed to be the tipping over, in my usage pro-ration of FS9.x time spent in the hobby.

I never saw the actual performance, features, etc...as anything less than FSX or P3D. They are all the same. It was the world graphics that had me use (I never stopped using FS9...) FS9 much less, than XP, FSX, and P3D.

Now, post-EVO2015 installation, with graphics that truly put, in my opinion, FS9 banging at the doors of 3rdP offerings to use in FSX, P3D (mind you, you need to take into account that the graphics engines are different, etc) and that I feel that EVO2015 (and all latest updates from Sascha) bring FS9 as close as it can come to the glass ceiling, that it is now, for my needs and expectations, be used equally in full flights and/or time, to all the others.

It is that good, in my opinion.

It's certainly also, again, in my personal opinion, is nowhere even close to being stated that the sim is now a 'legacy' product.

This is the ONLY flight simulator on my system..and my system is a very capable beast...that has simply NO ISSUES, with anything, FPS, animation smoothness, cloud injection issues,  and on and on...that get posted into all the other flight forums by myriads of members.  Each and every day...constant 'not satisfied with my XXX.X performance, it could/needs to be better', posts.

If I want a flight that from the outset, to the final gate...is smooth, no chance of dropping do the desktop, can run modules with it until the cows come home...all of it...and YOU end the flight....and only you...then this is the sim to run.  Sure, they  are all great.  XP, FSX, P3D...they run, and you can get great results, but this is the one sim that anybody can run, on any system out there upon AVSIM, and you KNOW, it will give you top-notch performance.

The sim is still very beautiful, and in my view, I have always preferred the color pallets of FS9, over any other sim on my system.

Now that Sascha's fabulous artistry and ingenuity is in place...it is that much more of a pleasure to fire up FS9.(x...you decide), and let 'er rip....

...have a good day, all!

Post Edit:To Sascha, you were correct, both Winter and Hard Winter can be loaded...and ASE correctly brought up Winter, from Hard Winter, at my debarkation point, Toronto.  Over Detroit now, and graphics seamlessly switched to Winter.  Fabulous!

Hi Mitch

Yes FS9 is solid, but you do pay a price, in decreased graphics resolution, for this awesome performance..

Personally, I love the fact that FSX allows cockpits and outside views that have no visible corners on rounded surfaces, and Orbx scenery is so good that I would not want to go back..

FSX is it for me (for now).  Having a blast too

It is as smooth as FS9 was (actually smoother in the VC).. and I never have a hickup when flying.. so - nice to have a favorite flightsim that does not let you down!

FS9 / FSX whatever works for you..

Hi Bert!

Yes, your're most right...whatever the user wants for the needs! :)  Very true.

I have to say though, that in comparing all of them, Bert...with Sascha's killer EVO2015 in place...I am getting great graphics, very satisfying graphics, actually. The one gripe I always had about FS9...was that some shorelines, lakes, peninsula's...etc would have those 'it's either this way, or that way' sharp edges.  No longer...look above at Lake St.Clair, and the Pt. Pelee Peninsula.  Very life-like now..and certainly equal to FSX and P3D!  Not before EVO2015, though. These shots are taken at my native screen resolution as well. No DSR on these.

EVO2015 brought FS9, to the level of all my other flight sims, in my usage opinion. I can not praise this world replacement package highly enough!  He (Sascha, the Dev) is delivering SPRING soon, and that will complete all world seasons.  He is also uploading a new water graphic...and I wonder how he can best the present one, it is so darn good, Bert.  I mean..there are now waves and swells represented. I shot a great pic (I think, lol) of just those waves and swells, on my Chicago Blues series, with a head-down shot just before I went over Michigan's side of the lake.  If you use the full water effect slider, you get actual swelling waves...and for FS9...this is quite unbelievable. Tweak the whole scene with a slight crisper darkening with ENBSERIES...and oh my...oh my....

Sure, I love 'em all..and use them all...but to have FS9...with killer system performance now looking as good as anything else (with honest graphic engine handi-caps in place)....what a sweetheart deal, THIS IS!

Cheers, and thanks for commenting Bert...much appreciated!

What I miss from FS9 (2004) [Especially with all that  Jeeezus Bojote Altuve taught us on how to modify water animation, reflection, height, speed, and direction]. Daaamn, never saw water that good anymore. FSX was not so good, and P3D seems the worst.

Of course now we have Enhanced FSX/ FSX2010, aka P3D, and we have great sceneries and great ORBX products which would make going back to FS9 no desire...Especially for me. I'm all about looks and performance.  I dream of the day P3D becomes 64bit application...And, with newer and better CPU & graphics cards coming out, I want to soundly say that P3D is here to stay.

------ Unless, some company comes out with a life-changing sim; of which I have read that there a 2 sims  in development that promise to leave all current and future sims, well... sitting on the runway.

I'll believe it the day I get stuck on the runway.

But, gentlemen,   enjoy what you got. NO!  Better yet.. Enjoy what makes you smile !

You got it! :)   I guess that I'm a supporter for, that there is no need to migrate to just one sim...storage is so darn cheap and expansive today.  Yes..and of course, ORBX scenery is much more detailed (as the FSX and P3D engine allows for that), and I use them both regularly...but, FS9, gives me also, what I need...a smooth, ABSOLUTELY STUTTER-FREE flight...and nobody, on this planet, can claim that they have absolutely no micro-stutter or pause phases in their P3D flights.  There just is.  It's pushing the FSX engine to max limits, and it shows in ways such as that.

I am waiting like everybody else, for coding beyond FSX/P3D, a new modern graphics engine that can actually make use of card's features even in the 5xx nVidia range.  If that comes...and you get flight simulation graphics (and is supported by 3rdP dev companies... ) that is the equal of first person shooters, and car chase software...then watch the stampede AWAY from anything that is legacy Microsoft code.  P3D, FSX, AND FS9 will be dropped like a red hot branding iron. To say that they would not be...is well...disingenuous.

They will stay active, as long as 3rdP content is still more expansive on M.S. based flight sims, than the next flight simulator-TRUE generation in graphic engine, and support design.  Sure...

When those two you're referencing, might become more than vapor-ware....and 'we-are-working-on-it'....announcements, then I think, the stampede will make the legendary runs of the Plains Buffalo...look like stop and go traffic in the city.

Good post Joe, and thanks for commenting! :)

Mitch,

may I say you a compliment for your enthusiastic post.

As you know, there's no need to convince me from FS9Evo. Did you fly in the tropics with Evo yet? Let's say, from the Bolivian highlands to Paraguay or Brazil. This is where Evo looks most fantastic in my eyes.

But back to your post. What I want to add is that most of the still-FS9ers have a simulator that has nothing more in common with these three GBytes coming out of the box anymore. We have pimped and tweaked, too, but not to be able to run the sim without OoM, but rather with sceneries, clouds, textures, aircraft, AI traffic. I counted just for the fun and found out that my sim needs 115 GByte of HD space. It still runs smooth and reliable, with not too much loading time - well, just as you stated. We call it as we want - FS9.37886, FS9.75, FS9.X...

And having this said, it's quite clear why I don't want to change to P3D (not to speak of FSX): I think I will never get a simulator again that is this customized and matured. (not to speak about working hours and money invested) I can easily do without cloud shadows and reshade something injectors, but not without all my sceneries and AI planes around me.

Cheers!

Harald

Great post, Harald.   No..I haven't yet done the flight and area you suggested. Still wahoozing around the Great Lake Basin. I'll do your flight today...and oh, BTW...head back to the download link, for Sascha has brought on-line 2016 updates and missing mountain textures. More custom Desert, and Water to boot.  I've already got them all installed..and am lovin' it! The water (with the animation set to on) now has large swells across the surfaces...really cool.  It's a Jedi Mind Trick...but it works....

I have shots of the new 3D halo's...and they are really nice, have shots of the water too, out on Lake St. Clair....

"No..these are NOT the Wookies you are looking for..."  ;)

Cheers,

Mitch

Hey Bert, I thought you are also a P3D user? I guess I got my fact mixed up

Mitch,  I gotta give it to you, how many sims do you maintain?  I had FS9 but never seriously used it, was on FSX for a short while but ORBX did not perform for me there.  So now I am splitting time between P3Dv3 and XP.  I recently reinstall my FSX-SE because I missed my F1 Mustang, then the autogen pop-up gradually drive me nut.  I am not sure how long I will keep FSX-SE around

I have P3D V3.1. installed with Orbx PNW and the Baytower RV7.

I have not yet been able to get the outside scenery view totally smooth, like I see it in FSX.

It is nice that the autogen popup is fixed, but for that, the scenery that goes by is ever so slightly

"restless".. enough to bother me.  So, back to FSX.   (and all that in the FS9 forum  )

Hi Anxu00 :)

I use them all, I have concurrently;  P3D v2.4, FSX (boxed), XP.latest beta, and of course FS9.999999999999and 9.

What has me press the engine start on any of them...is the mood I'm in, or what type of flight environ do I want.  All of them have their strengths, and I have always been a multi-vitamin type of guy...don't settle for one...HAVE THEM ALL! :))))))

Cheers,

Hi Mitch, did I understand that FS9 is all that is installed on your HD ? Do most of your addons (scenery, aircraft) work with FS9? If it all does then I may have to break out

my FS9 ! Also does ASN work as well?

Hi Lamar;

The way I have my system set up..is this:

I have both FSX (Boxed) and FS9 on my C: drive. On my F: drive sits P3D v2.4

No FSX or ORBX stuff will work within FS9.  All 3rdP and freeware/donationware planes, airports, scenery, total world texture replacement such as Sascha's EVO2015/16, are dedicated software only to be used within the FS9 platform.  Why, just on AVSIM alone, there are TONS of great planes (for FS9 is a fully mature platform), airports, scenery packs, blah, blah and blah!   It would take you ten years just to install everything donated by great fellow users and the like.

If you do decide to reinstall FS9...there is one file that you need, I can't remember what it is...to download and install (Perhaps, I can call upon others that might know this file's name) and it stops crashes or non-starts.  It is an .exe file that once run, acts like FS9's first and only Service Pack.

For weather, you can buy Active Sky Evolution, from the same company as Active Sky Next.   Within A.S.E. or ASE...when you first fire it up, it will ask you what flight sim to you want it to load into....FSX or FS9.  You'd pick FS9, and then away you go.  It creates beautiful weather...and I highly suggest you also pick up REX2004 Extreme for clouds that ASE will inject.

If you have not ever had any brushing up against the world of FS9...then seriously...make a pot of coffee...sip and download/install, sip and download/install...sip and....and...   You get the picture.  Everybody in this forum will be MOST glad to help you in any question...and THERE IS NO bad or 'duh' question....fire them away...and you'll get answered.  FSX/P3D are both great, but in my opinion, they do not universally replace, or put FS9 out-to-pasture.  No way...and with Sascha's  EVO2015/16 world texture replacement suite....even more so!

Have fun...and INSTALL, INSTALL...INSTALL!!!!! :)

Cheers,

Mitch
