Recommended Posts

hello,

This a TV show about a 15 year old boy being addicted to Flight Simulator.

Here he refuses to say welcome to his sister (who he didn't see since 3 weeks) because he is landing:

then his grandpa comes and his also angry about it.

and here you can see his flight teacher forbidding him to play flight simulator, because he thinks he is to much concentrated in the instruments and not outside:

My wife has learned that it is better not to interrupt me while I'm landing...

Oculus Rift and Google glasses will change the world. Nerdniness will become cool. And visitors who cannot afford to buy them will rent goggles at the entry gates of National Parks in order to better understand and appreciate trees.

Don't joke about things like that!

How long does it take for 'smug' to wear off after buying an EV?

I guess, when you fly on light aircraft, they say you have to look outside, it is true. Flight simulator does not offer the same visual perspective, and makes you focus on the instruments. Flying a light aircraft is about "visual" flying and not instrument scan.

My CFI knew I was using MSFS (he enjoyed it as well) and he said the same--MSFS users tend to look outside less than normal.  He had me constantly scanning outside for traffic, engine out locations, etc...  And he gave me visual cues and physical cues for orientation, coordinated flight and so on.

Since I started my Western States photo scenery project I look outside much more when flying the sim.  I've covered most of the major western states so the scenery now resembles real life and gives me more of interest to look at when I fly.  I also find it more realistic when approaching airports since the visuals now reflect real life so I use the same visual cues to orient myself on approach to the airport as I would when I fly in real life.
