FS Crashing to blank screen with strange sounds

Featured Replies

Can anybody help me I have not been flying for a long time and have just re-installed FS9.It loads and runs OK but after a while it just locks the computer on a black screen (the monitor shows the no signal message) the PC is still running as i can hear very strange sounds like the AC's engine running but like it has a stammer. Its a new clean install with no add ons installed Just the 9.1 update.I have a GeForce 6800 LE.Win XP SP2Have no other problems with other games or any App's for that matter.I have searched the forum but found no problems like mine. Thanks in Advance.Phil Shaw

Sounds to me like overheating. I had the very same problem sometimes in the summer, when Celsius were reaching 32 or higher.

Thanks for that, but can i ask a dum questionWhy does it only happen in FS?Thanks Phil

Could be that your processor is working harder running FS9 than in any other programs. I had the black screen lockup for awhile and I finally solved it by deleting the fs9.cfg file and letting it build a new one. Since then, I have had one lockup in about 2 weeks of constant use. My config file was quite old, so I am thinking this might not be your problem on a new install, but it might be worth a try. As far as the heat issue, pull the side off the case and try runing a small fan directed at the circuit boards and see if that has any effect,

OK have tested a fan and still no good, but have done some testing with old software FS2002 does exactly the same while Fly II runs OK.FS2004 still is still crashing with graphics set to min levels, but it runs ok in safe mode.Has anybody had a problem with wireless keyboards / mice ?Thanks againPhil Shaw
