Which is the most realistic (In your opinion)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am trying to figure out which of these options looks the closest to real life. I did buy P3D, but my PC couldn't run it smoothly so I had to revert back to FSX. Right now I am using it with ENB.

In your opinion, please rate it from 1-5, 1 being the most realistic and 5 being the least.

  • Default FSX
  • FSX with ENB (state which ENB)
  • FSX with a mod (state which mod)
  • FSX with DX10
  • FSX with DX10 fixer

Which one looks closest to real life? I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

Hi, I also use FSX (with Steves DX10 Fixer) a move to P3D Vx will certainly be in the future but I'm very happy with my sim now.

I personally would recommend FSX acc. Or FSX SE with Steves dx10 fixer and then add reshade with sweetfx 2.0 (free)

As ENB doesn't work with dx10.

Sweetfx makes things look amazing and real life and is very easy to use with no fps impact.

If you do a quick web search about reshade with sweetfx you will see that many folks are very happy with it. Also, if you check out the presets (page 17) there are some great ones for FSX dx10.

Reshade also works with P3D as well

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your reply   Interesting, combining several mods. I will probably get the DX10 fixer soon. I'm gonna get SweetFX now.

I really want to know which looks more realistic- SweetFX or ENB? I find it really hard to comapare because I don't have an artistic eye .

I can't seem to download reshade. It says that the file is corrupt.

I am sorry, but your question doesn't really make sense... "Look most realistic" is a matter of opinion given your choices.

DX10 provides many benefits and in my opinion, shouldn't even be considered without Steve's DX10fixer.

ENB also, in my opinion, looks terrible. It's palettes change everything.  Something much more worthwhile to look into is reshade. Found at: http://www.reshade.me

Thanks for your reply. Not quite sure what you are trying to say in the first paragraph. What I meant was which one made fsx look the most realistic (in your opinion), when given those choices.

Seems like DX10 is a good choice. I'm gonna get the fixer as soon as possible.

I tried to download reshade, however winrar fails to open it and says that it's corrupted. Not sure what's wrong with the file.

I would say, FSX default (DX9) + Orbx FTX Global.

Thanks, that is what I currently have. However, I'm trying to make the lighting and the colours look realistic. I think the default fsx looks too monotone or dull to be realistic. I've been looking at some real life videos and I am trying to find out how to make the shaders look more like that.

Also, this might be off topic, but I have been flying around Malaysia and FTX Global doesn't seem to make the ground textures look that great. Is it just for me or is it just because there isn't as much coverage in that region?

I've seen people modify colour correction using Sony Vegas to make it like this. Does reshade work this way? Is there a tool where it can actively tweak the shaders to make FSX look like this?

How do I get the lighting and colour in fsx to look like the picture below? I can't explain it, but the colour and lighting in FSX seems "wrong" (can't blame it, it's 10 years old).

From the list below (I've listed it again), in your own opinion, which option can make FSX resemble that image the most?

  • Default FSX
  • FSX with ENB (state which ENB)
  • FSX with a mod (state which mod)
  • FSX with DX10
  • FSX with DX10 fixer

I downloaded and tried un-zipping the Shader file, but got the message "Extracting MediatorLicense.txt    Unknown compression method".

Any suggestions ?

The best looking FSX I've ever achieved had the following add-ons:

FSX DX9

FTX Global

REX4 + Soft Clouds

24h ENB MOD

Unfortunately, the ENB mod causes CTDs. I don't use it, but it does makes the sim look very realistic during the day.

I use DX10 Fixer, works for me. I have rested on the fact that chasing the graphics tail is taking to much fly time up. All I concern my self with is smooth fluid flight and enough graphics to achieve an acceptable level of flying that appears real. I am more interested in procedure now than eye candy.

FSX-SE + DX10 Fixer is fantastic.  I don't see any advantage to running FSX boxed with SE available.  Having said that I think P3D winds on VC shadows, volumetric clouds, fog, etc. but I don't have it so only can judge from YouTube videos.

Finally got the DX10 Fixer!   You bring up a good point- smooth fluid flight is more rewarding than just eye candy. Can anyone share their fsx and/or the fixer's setting for DX10? Also, does the DX10 effects reduce FPS? I seem to be having an FPS drop when using the fixer.

Check this thread, this is so far the best I could squeeze from FSX DX10 + Shade + SweetFX. For me this is the winning combination.

Wow those ground shots look very realistic. I am currently trying to download reshade but Winrar says that the archive is corrupt. Anyone know the fix?

Thanks for all the replies.

I have been using steves fixer for awhile and just updated to the latest version 2.11 I set up just following the manual and have great results also using nvidia inspector and frame limiter set to 30 fps doesn't drop below 29 with orbx England .

I don't believe the fixer reduces frame rates.  Probably what reduces them is people cranking up their settings once they get things working in DX10.

I did test the DX10 before the fixer and the frame rates were better. I figured out that it must have been that the tweaks I had were deleted.

I am currently trying to install reshade. However, it says that the installation archive folder is corrupted. Can someone download the latest version from the front page and see whether it is a problem with my computer or a problem on their side?

Thanks for all the help.
