Real World Weather

Recommended Posts

Opus FSI here. I tried the earlier version of ASN when it first came out - for some reason I got a lot of stutters on my rig 2500k 4ghz)

So I stuck with OPUS

I have them all, REX, OPUS, FSGRW, etc., and of course Active Sky Next (ASN) which outranks them all from many perspectives including the ease of loading historical weather - set ASN to 'Force Historical Time to Sim Time' and forget about ever having to change that setting. ASN will download weather in accordance with the Sim's time and date including current time and date. And as far cameras are concerned, nothing comes close to EZDOK specially if you're into video making.

Okay! Thanks everyone for the replies, after reading them I pulled the trigger on ASN. I changed a few of the settings based on the recommendations (3 cloud layers and lesser cloud draw distances) and it seems to run well. Orbx SoCal is bringing my high-end system to its knees so I was leery of anything that might cause a further degradation in performance but in my limited testing so far it doesn't seem to be any worse then setting the weather within P3D by hand.

I think that ASN is the gold standard for real weather in simming.

Another vote for Opus - especially when it comes to performance (and the excellent DHM cameras).

How does OPUS handle transitions? Is it smooth or does it suffer from the 'bang' change?

I found this a problem with FSGRW.

Thanks,

Mark

I found this a problem with FSGRW.

I use FSGRW and the only loading hesitation I ever see is the initial load when the green bar appears. My weather throughout my flights is accurate and I never see the green bar again, nor any hesitations. Wonder if it is a function of setting a parameter about how it (FSGRW) updates weather?

This sounds like our Saturday fly-ins. The banter about real weather or ASN is relentless. Opus man myself. :spiteful:

I am using ASN now but I think I might go back to FSI because it is loaded with my cameras ...always.

I think it might boil down to the real difference being the ability for ASN to load historical weather… And if that's the deciding factor then maybe it's a matter of using the right tool at the right time…

Just thinking… Chas

I use Opus and ASN together; Opus for the cameras and ASN for the weather, thermals, ridge lift, windshear/microbursts and wake turbulence.
