Darker night, retain day brightness?

Recommended Posts

After installing a tweak of the shader file in P3D, I've got my sim looking perfect in the daytime. However, at night it still looks way, way too bright. Is there any setting I can tweak or HDR/SweetFX thing I can install to make my night very dark while keeping my daytime textures the same? I've been using XPlane a bit, and though the sim has its flaws it looks absolutely perfect at night. Can I recreate the XPlane night look in P3D somehow?

I've seen it suggested to turn down Brightness, Contrast and gamma a wee touch in NCP. for night flying.

I know it doesn't quite meet your spec to retain day time conditions.

Make a new config file in P3D with all your current settings and only modify features like HDR.

Save it as you night cfg.

Or make an extra SweetFx night lighting file and use a batch file to switch netween you daytime and night time files.

Hey mate,

I was the same as you, I could get my sim good at day but during night it was just so bright. For me i was looking for as real as possible, not being able to see clouds at night etc and only the lights flashing on your wings when youre at your cruise altitude. Basically a very dark night. I came across a program called Gapa ( link - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/gamma_panel.html

You can create profiles for your pc in general, for my night i have adjusted the settings so its darker. You can save the profile and when you want to fly at night just click it and your pc screen will turn into the profile which you have set. It has no effect on FPS. If you are interested i can give my settings in the morning. Cheers

I cot accustomed to changing this manually in my nvidia config. Usually I use brightness at 42 and leave everything else at default. In FSX (and I think P3D as well) night darkness varies by moon, weather and season.

Up to this day using stuff like sweetFX causes crashes in my sim as well as "lining" artifacts in the sky between different shades of blue due to increased contrast settings.

If I want to simulate a sunny day, I just bump up gamma to about 1.40 or 1.50.

I am using Reshade and Mastereffect. Here is what my sim looks like at all parts of the day. This is the same file for all of the pics.

I think the night is almost too dark, but its partially because the lights don't truly emit light, which would give the glow that would be it much better.
