A warning (again) about Windows 10 automatic upgrades...

Recommended Posts

I just answered a topic by a member who awoke this morning to find that his PC was automatically upgraded to Windows 10 during the night. Not what he wanted and some things are now broken. Earlier in the week Microsoft changed the status of the Windows 10 upgrade to "Recommended". And almost every machine which has Windows Update set to automatic gets both the Important and the Recommended updates.

I gotta say this one more time - IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR MACHINE TO BE UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 10 YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE OF ALL "RECOMMENDED" ITEMS.

End of warning/speech/rant.....

Best regards,

Hi Jim,

Yes, I couldn't agree more. GWX works very well and everything can be reversed when the time comes to gird your loins and take that plunge. I really am getting fed up with the way Microsoft constantly try to interfere in our lives. Wouldn't mind so much if their interference was guaranteed to be non-destructive, but the outcome can be a bit of a lottery. If it ain't broke then don't 'fix' it.

Regards,

Mike

It's pretty sad when Microsoft has become so aggressive in pushing one of their own products onto our computers, that we literally have to treat the Win 10 upgrade as a virus - installing third-party protection software on our machines to block attempts by MS to install something that many neither want nor asked for.
