Orbx Southern California ?

Recommended Posts

Anybody have comments on this region? Is it as good as their other stuff?

I already have the 3 Australian Orbx and 3 UK packages.

And I have all the other Orbx North America sets and Fjords.

I would say it's the best region yet.  I especially like the photo-real areas in the desert.

So much variety!

I used to live in SoCal and really am impressed with this offering. I thoroughly enjoy it.

For looks, it's fantastic. The area can be tough on VAS in particular, but also FPS.

Wow, sounds great!

Good thing I live in Western America where the Orbx roams.

By the time they get to the Midwest, the Cubs will be in the World Series. :)

Completely agree with those who say its their best scenery yet, but it comes at a price of being quite resource intensive both in terms of VAS and FPS (if you measure that). However, in saying that, I have a mid range system and I am still able to run it pretty well but, depending on the aircraft in use, I need to turn down some of the sliders in an effort to decrease VAS usage and prevent OOMs.

I have a question, how does one know which version of an Orbx scenery is installed? On their patch page is says stuff like 'this patch is not needed if you have purchased Orbx England recently from the FlightSim Store'.

Example: England terrain has 4 patches and if you have the earliest version of the scenery, then you have to run them all to get up to the latest version. How do you know which you have and therefore which patch is the first one that you need to use? I can see myself screwing up a scenery by running the wrong patch.

Is there some properties tab where you can see the version of  the .exe installer which tells you what you have and which patch you need?

Your scenery versions can be accessed via FTX Central.  FTX Central tells you all you need to know about what patch to install.

very very impressive. I think my desktop will run that scenery easy. On the other hand, my $600 laptop runs the other Orbx very well, but maybe  not this one. I concentrated on  the Orbx UK scenery last Xmas sale.... don't have SoCal yet...
