February 24, 201610 yr Commercial Member Got the latest NVidia drivers? New copy of NVidia Inspector? Start with fresh profiles. Especially if a change in capabilities has been surfaced in the drivers, like with MFAA. NVidia Control Panel 3D settings Select profile Restore Apply, and Restore main profile to reset DSR. Any kind of problems can surface with these profiles after a driver update. If you have the MFAA capable GPU, and the driver supports it: In NI set MFAA on, then in P3D Display settings set AA to 2xMSAA, and check it out. Close the sim, in NI turn off MFAA, restart the sim, check it out. (use a B58) Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
February 24, 201610 yr My understanding reading about MFAA is it will not per se improve AA. It allow you to run a lower MSAA (ie 4x instead of 8x) but with MFAA ON it will seem your running 8x MSAA without the FPS hit and achieve higher FPS. With 4x MSAA and MFAA ON you will get the equivalent of 8x MSAA without any peformance hit. I've dropped my MSAA down to 4x and turned on MFAA so now I have a little more breathing room with my GPU when in heavy cloud conditions. I could be incorrect but thats how I understand it. As posted in an earlier post on this thread: http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_7.html Read this to understand it better. Sean Green
February 24, 201610 yr Commercial Member You would be correct. That's why I was sneaky with the test recommended. Set MFAA On with 2xMSAA, so it's like 4xMSAA, then when MFAA is off becomes next to useless 2xMSAA. That should definitely show it off if it's working right. But I also add that the B58 should be used, do not use a random plane. Gloat at your favourite plane in AA glory after set up. I cant see a difference on 1440p @ 28". 980ti Could be the plane, try comparing with a B58 and not any plane in the hanger. With basic AA the A36 looks poor. The A36 is fixed by adding SGSS at the same multiple as MSAA. Could be the NVidia profile hasn't been restored to factory defaults since you got the new drivers. February 24, 201610 yr 1920x1200. 8x MSAA and MFAA and i dont see anything . GPU load is also the same Update : Ahh i should try 4 xMSAA Michael Moe Michael Moe
February 24, 201610 yr I've noticed that some of us like to set anisotropic filtering to the same multiple as the AA and any external AA such as SGSS. Does this actually make any difference? Example : If I set my MSAA at 2x and SGSS at 2x, must anisotropic filtering be reduced to 2x as well? What impact does this have on performance/quality? February 24, 201610 yr No. AF is a completely different thing and is not related to AA in any way. You do not need to match the values of AF and AA. Wills
February 24, 201610 yr So I've realized that I pretty much have to use SGSS to be happy now I can't use to 4x SGSS I have to use 2 time SGSS so does that mean I should turn MFAA on and MSAA to 2x match everything at 2 times? What happens if i mix and match so say for instance I use 8 times MSAA and two times SGSS why is that bad Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom

Set 4xMSAA, then try different values of SGSS, won't take long. Use an A36 for setting SGSS, and use a B58 for setting without SGSS. Then when you choose your favourite plane, see if it's AA'd OK, if not add SGSS. Guys, you need to understand there's two types of plane model with DX10 or DX11. One AA's OK (the B58 type from FSX) without SGSS, and the older types won't AA so well with DX10 or DX11 unless SGSS is added. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

February 24, 201610 yr DSR seems to create even more shimmering for me, don't know why. Tried 1.5x and 2.0x and it seems it gets worse the higher I go with the resolution. I'm talking about shimmering in the scenery and lights, the VC seems fine.
