Stuttering every 20-30 seconds in P3Dv3

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm a long time NGX user in FSX. I've been very impressed with P3Dv3 in the last couple of months, so decided to take the plunge and buy the NGX for P3Dv3.

First flight in the NGX and the simulator is stuttering - every 20-30 seconds the simulator will freeze for a few seconds. Checked the forums and the two suggestions I found were FSUIPC autosave (which doesn't happen every 30 seconds so I think unlikely) and ASN. Even when I turned the latter off I'm still seeing the stutters.

I've been running Aerosoft's A320 for the last few months and have not observed the same issue with that addon. I've a reasonably powerful PC (i7-3770k running at 4.5ghz, GTX970, 16GB RAM) and am running at modest display settings. FPS locked at 25 which P3D seems to be holding steady.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dominic

Check FSUIPC auto save.

Turning off autosave in FSUIPC did seem to fix it thanks. My autosave was causng the NGX to be unusable due to stutters all the time, not just when it was actually saving the scenario (which was set to every 5 minutes). Is there a fix in the works for this? Autosave is a useful feature....

Thanks,

That'd be best asked of Pete Dowson in his FSUIPC support forum, I think.

Dominic,

Are you using an anti-virus?  If you are it is best to exclude Prepr3D.exe from scanning as well as some other files.  Do a search on what files need to be excluded for flight simulation.

Other than that your simulator settings may be too high.  Can you post your specs and advise whether you are using nVidia Inspector?

Thanks for all the help.

Everything works ok when autosave is turned off. I haven't experienced this type of problem with any other aircraft before, that's why I thought best to ask here rather than in the FSUIPC forum. I'm happy to try there too.

My PC is i7-3770k running at 4.5ghz, GTX970, 16GB RAM. Display settings are all set in the middle of the range and P3Dv3 maintains the 25fps I've locked, even when using the NGX in ORBX FTX areas. I'm not using Nvidia Inspector. Antivirus is already set to exclude P3D files.

Thanks again,

Dominic Rhodes

Okay, that's good.  Looks like you have a pretty robust system that can handle P3D.  Here is a thread that I am following, I turned HT on and set my affinity settings for P3D and other addons:

Maybe this is something you should consider, it has made a huge difference for me.

Thanks. Coincidentally I saw this thread over the weekend. I turned HT back on and set AM to 116. Also used Process Lasso to assign the various cores. Early days yet but I think the changes have improved performance somewhat.

It's definitely a performance issue then? Aerosoft's A319/20/21 runs very smoothly with FSUIPC autosave turned on...

Thanks again,

Our aircraft save a TON of information when the sim saves. As such, the computer is faced with a lot more to do when FSX saves and performance will therefore suffer.

I know it seems logical to compare add-on aircraft to add-on aircraft, but it's really not that simple.
