Mystery island near Hong Kong

Featured Replies

Apologies if this turns out to be just a quirk in my system.Haven't flown from or to Hong Kong for quite a while.Flew Aerosim's L1011 in Cathay Pacific livery to Hong Kong last night and noticed that just about halfway between the old and new airports, there was a fairly large island. What caught my attention was the very colourful terrain textures on the island, which clash with the surrounding, much more muted, terrain.Could anyone check if it is just me, or is this just a MS hiccup. Thanks,

John

JohnAs you might guess, I'm a fairly frequent Hong Kong flyer and Kai Tak is very much open in my sim .... glad to hear my Cathay livery is getting some airtime! Are you flying default, or do you have add-ons for Hong Kong? There is very little open water between VHHH and VHHX, but if you have 'very colourful terrain textures on the island', it does sound like a texture glitch, for sure. Have you tried repeating the exercise after a reboot? When you fly, say, from VHHH to VHHX on the correct approach of 088, you'll have Lantau Island on your right to start with ... as the tip of that passes under you, you'll cross over the new bridge to Tsing Yi island and then the mainland with Tsuen Wan on your left .... then you're already coming in over Stonecutters Island with its MTL container terminals and the Kowloon peninsula on your final approach to the checkerboard. Hong Kong Island itself is on your right over the harbour, of course. The only open water you're crossing on the short hop is Victorial Harbour itself, really.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hi Mark.Default scenery. No add-on scenery.Love your repaint.I'll attach a screenshot now that I'm home (see link below).

John

It's like that on mine as default. I noticed it too and thought at first it was a bad addon but it's there without them. Not sure at the moment what could be done to improve it.

I too fly into Kai Tak alot but I have never seen that scenery. That has got to be an addon of some sort???

Well, I don't have any add-on scenery, so I don't really know where the strange textures came from.Any ideas as to how I can re-install the textures for the default Hong Kong area?

Just checking on a map of Hong Kong, I see that the island in question is 'Ma Wan'; this apears to act as a natural support for the road bridge from Ha Kwai Chung (Kowloon), across Tsing Yi island, then Ma Wan island, and onto Lantau Island. From the screenshot, it looks like a nasty texture has found it's way onto Ma Wan; I don't have the default Hong Kong anymore so I can't say whether it's a Microsoft error....although I don't ever remember it looking quite that bad before I added other scenery: landclass, meshes, etc....

I am pretty certain it's a Microsoft error. I too did not notice it immediately but that's only because I didn't look down in that direction.
