A Decent CYYZ Recommendation

Recommended Posts

Uninstalled GSX, etc, and still no difference. No idea what major airports are around CYYZ, so I have no idea which airports to look at to check if this issue applies there too.

CYTZ (Billy Bishop) has AFCADs in both MT6 and in FTX Global (if you use that).  Also Buttonville (CYKZ) appears in both MT6 and FTXG.  Try disabling those and see if the problem persists.

Here's a more comprehensive list to check out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airports_in_the_Greater_Toronto_Area

Thanks for that. No, I don't use FTX Global. But I most certainly will head the way of the other two listed Canadian airports and see if the same is happening there..

Thanks for the link too.

EDIT: Just checked the other two airports around CYYZ, and they seem okay even if they have no jetways. but at least the Building Terminals are all there.

I'm even more flummoxed now!

Reinstall GSX, go to the airport, open the GSX customization page and it will tell you exactly which AFCAD is being used along with the path so you can manually find it and rename it from .bgl to .off, after you exit FSX of course.

Then once you do that run FSX, go to the same airport and see if the buildings are now correct.

If you already nuked the MTX Afcad GSX or FSX can't still access it, that's why you need to go to the GSX customization screen to see what other or hidden AFCAD is in play.

What you want to do is disable the AFCADs at those nearby airports and see if they are affecting CYYZ...it's not unheard of for an AFCAD for a nearby airport to have an exclude that messes up the other airport.  To restate...you want to rule out that an AFCAD at a nearby field is affecting CYYZ, not check that the nearby field looks OK..

On the scruffyduck site there's a free utility called Simple Airport Scanner that you can use to check for duplicate AFCAD/ADE airport files.  Note that the aforementioned possibility of an errant exclude at a nearby airport may not be recognized as a duplicate by any tool, however.

Good luck

I thought your tip was going to nail. Did as you suggested. Now, I am not sure if I am worse off or better.

Take a look at the screenie.

Thanks for that suggestion, Bob. It's 02:0am now, I reckon this can wait for another day, another dawn. Will give your suggestion a go tomorrow.

Exactly my point in asking if he had GSX. It just took me a while to get back and check.

What AFCAD does the GSX customization page say is being used? That was my point of reinstalling GSX was to use it to see what AFCAD is in use so that you can disable it.

GSX is referencing this APX26160.BGL in Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\Scenery\0302\scenery folder, which I renamed to AP26160.Bak, and then re-started Steam, which as I reported made no difference.

  • GSX is also referencing a MyTrafficProfessional\MyTraffic\scenery\BRE2_CYKZ.BGL for CYKZ
  • But most surprisingly, for CYTZ, there is no entry in the drop-down list of airports ID in FSX-Steam, which was there yesterday before re-installing GSX.

I run - CYYZ2007 Toronto Pearson International Airport for FS2004 Freeware - in FSX with no known problems. It's available in FS 2004 downloads, worth a try , install exe,  to ROOT FSX folder, it will find the Addon Scenery folder and then install to the Scenery Library in the usual way. The root folder will have a Flight Ontario folder which only contains two cfg files which can be ignored. Full pdf comes with the download.  Hopefully it may also work for you.

Rick,

I have MS-FSX and ORBX the file from Ray CYYZ,showing fine.

I don't know if the file structure for SE is the same as for FSX.

Take a look if you have Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\NAME\scenery\Toronto.bgl.

In this bgl are the terminals they you are missing.

I don't think it's a good idea to disable the stock APX26160.BGL file as it stores the default data for more than just CYYZ. To not have the default scenery objects show up has to mean you have either disabled a file or folder that contains those scenery objects OR have added somewhere a file that is conflicting with the default CYYZ.

Looked into where you suggested, and sure enough there js a Toronto.bgl. Question is, what app to open it with as Notepad gives me garbled rubbish? And how to copy those terminals into the Ray Smith-modded CYYZ?

#Echofox

Thanks for that. Am going to look it over right now.

#Dave

Had no idea it was a stock. I was just trying to eliminate every CYYZ reference. Correcting that now.

EDIT: Just put that stock file back. Still no different. Same, no terminals just jetways on their own like centurions.

The Toronto.bgl file you don't want to open at all. Check to see if your Scenery\NAME\Scenery folder is active in the scenery library as that is where the Toronto.bgl file lives and it contains the airport scenery library objects.

Do you recognize this picture, which happened as in the Scenery.cfg scenery\NAME is disabled,so take a look to the scenery.cfg.

CYYZ.jpg

Hope you find it,

Oeps,Dave can typing quicker as i can.

And Rick for open some bgl's you use ModelConvertorX ,you can't open all bgl's but for example toronto.bgl.

Also you can open MDL from  the airplanes file.
