Which is the best option?

 

Specs - GTX 980TI, i5-4460, 8gb ram

I've similar specs to you. After much testing and flying I opt for Unlimited. 

 

Seems to give me a smoother experience.

There really isn't a best as either option will work better for some people.

 

When I fly complex aircraft I used unlimited which is smooth and stutter free, but when I fly GA I have to lock the frames at 30 in FSX to keep it smooth or the FPS will be jumping around causing stutters.

 

Try either option and see which works best for the scenario your flying in. No harm in doing that as it's easy to change from locked to unlimited with a few clicks of the mouse.

That makes sense of my experiments with FPS. Thanks.

 

Quite right that flying the PMDG 737 NGX with Gatwick Extreme and FTX Global and LC the "Unlimited" works well; then, taking off from Lee-On-Solent with the little Cessna over to Sandown for lunch and back the "locked at 30" works well.

For multiplayer it seems you have to lock at 30 or else the other panes jitter a lot.
