Scenery question-Something's got to be wrong

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm running P3Dv3 here and just installed FTX Global Base, Vector, and Open LC Europe with the latest Librairies.  All of the installs seemed to go well and were reported as successful.  But, when I see what's in the attached picture (over Seattle airport)  I can't figure out why the ground around the buildings has all of the blurry patches on it.  I'm not even sure if I'm seeing the ORBX stuff properly.  I do know that some of the ORBX is there because I noticed elevations around the runway that weren't there before.  Can someone please tell me what is wrong and what I should do to fix it?

I still have No. California region and Meigs airport to install, but I wanted to check it at this point first.  After that I will add UTX2 USA and UTX2 Europe.

Thanks,
Jeff

Search the forum for blurries, you will find many discussions.  If you have a high end system and high end video card you should be able to do much better than your screenshot.

Should not have loaded vector - its not good - overwhelms your computer resources causing blurries - dump it

Also if you are adding UTX - You really shouldnt have vector installed - oh forgot to tell you good luck uninstalling vector or should I say reinstalling your sim

Jeff,

You may want to back off your Scenery sliders to the center positions until you find out what your system can handle.

And you can't run Vector and UTX together - at least under normal circumstances.  I use UTX.

Good luck!

I also learned this the hard way :)  At some point, it's simply not possible to install EVERYTHING and still expect clear textures and good frame rates at high graphics settings.  ORBX regions are nice because they can easily be enabled or disabled from scenery library. Vector addons will push most systems over the limit.

Well, you CAN run Vector and UTX together if you layer them properly. For testing I do that and because I prefer UTX I have UTX layered above Vector - so in areas covered by both, I get UTX - in areas not covered by UTX I get Vector.

Vector is rougher on the system than UTX so you really need to cut back your settings.

FWIW, for me I prefer GEXP3D with UTX and I have FTX regions, like PNW, NCA, etc. Works just beautifully without Global.

Thanks  for all the comments, guys.  BTW, my system is overclocked to 4.4GHz., locked at 30 FPS with other usual tweaks, and I have an EVGA 980 Ti video card.  I would guess that would handle things pretty well, but maybe not. It has been running smoothly.  Stock setup with no fancy scenery  folder tricks, etc. . I will try cutting back some on a few settings, too, to see how that helps.

Something I did notice was that I had those blurry textures even when I just had FTX Global installed by itself.  Also, Richard was mentioning the known problem of uninstalling ORBX products and suggested a complete sim reinstall.  While inconvenient for sure, I only have MT6.0a as my other addon right now so could be done.  Can I just make Vector inactive in the Scenery Library and accomplish what needs to be done that way instead?

One other thing, I'm assuming that uninstalling P3Dv3(if I have to go that route) will get rid of any ORBX stuff there, correct?

Thanks much,

Jeff

Sure can but what I meant is if you really wanted it out cleanly - I found the only real way to do it was to do a clean install of sim - if you can live with the hard drive space being used up thats fine

Thanks, Richard.  You were posting just as I was adding a question to my last post.  I'm assuming that unistalling P3Dv3 will get rid of all ORBX files, correct?  Can just Global by itself (No other ORBX installed or made inactive) cause issues like you see in my picture such as the blurries and missing trees, houses, etc.?  Had more scenery with the default stuff.  Seems strange to me.

Yes a fresh install will wipe out all orbx stuff - make sure you delete all the left over folders - there is no uninstalls for orbx products so theres the problem - so sometimes you bite the bullet hopefully sooner than later but only with vector have I had to do this

Can you tell its not a program I am happy with - should donate it

Its not an orbx product really by the way - just a partnership - UTX is the way to go if you use vector products - if you do want to get rid of it - it uninstalls perfectly

Global will not cause this at all - also keep in mind things will get better with time - this is what I have noticed on every new install

What I mean is the sim will start to look better the longer you use it - weird but true -

Also make sure you are running affinity mask and oc your cpu if you can

Fiber fraction in cfg file helps with blurries also

Thanks. Any paricular folders to check for stray ORBX files? Yes, I get the feeling you aren't the only one who's not thrilled with Vector. :) Also wondering maybe I had a bad install of Global.

Running OC at 4.4GHz. with 980Ti. I took the route of no AM or HT as some have. May rethink that. I believe my FF is at .01 .

Will the other ORBX stuff reinstall with same validations, etc. ?

Yes, I get the feeling you aren't the only one who's not thrilled with Vector.

Vector certainly draws more detailed roads, waterbodies and coastlines. And if your hardware isn't up to it, it will cut into performance. But many of the complaints about Vector are overstated. Anyone with a recent CPU/GPU combo should be able to run Vector without any issues, other than the "frozen water" bug. Based on the limited info that Jeff provided so far (a GTX 980 Ti and OCed CPU, probably a recent high end variety) I suggest that he has something else wrong with either his installation or setup.

I'm running Pilot's Global Mesh, Orbx Global & LC, Vector, PNW and most other regions and airports in North America.  I have no problems that can be traced to Vector in either FSX-SE (DX10 with Steve's Fixer) or P3Dv3.1.

I can run it but prefer not to take the hit as UTX is a better performer - on a side note cant wait for ORBX USA LC - made by ORBX as it will be great

JNS try the route of HT on and if its a 4 core use these settings - it will def. help with blurries and give the sim time to settle in

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=85

[MAIN]
FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.50

As for files left behind by vector thats not the problem its the cfg. files it changes thats where the chasing becomes a pain - I cant remember now where those are

Oh do not OC that 980 - no bang for the buck and if you dont know what you are doing you will hose that card
