Notepad in win7 64

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I don't know if someone else has noticed and possibly solved a minor issue with Notepad in win7 64.

It's something that did not happen in winXP SP3, I used before.

In Flightplans.txt with Word wrap selected like in previous OS, the flightplans line is depicted in a weird way like this:

AC#3,5N-

BPT,1%,WEEK,IFR,0/06:58:22,0/07:46:21,150,F,0161,DNBE,0/08:29:25,0/09:16:10,150,F,0162,DNMM,0/10:30:00,0/11:16:45,150,F,0163,DNBE,0/11:58:36,0/12:46:35,150,F,0164,DNMM,1/06:58:00,1/07:46:00,150,F,0161,DNBE,1/08:29:04,1/09:15:49,150,F,0162,DNMM,1/10:29:39,1/11:16:24,150,F,0163,DNBE,1/11:58:15,1/12:46:14,150,F,0164,DNMM,2/06:57:39,2/07:45:39,150,F,0161,DNBE,2/08:28:43,2/09:16:42,150,F,0162,DNMM,2/10:29:18,2/11:16:03,150,F,0163,DNBE,2/11:57:53,2/12:45:53,150,F,0164,DNMM,3/06:59:46,3/07:46:31,150,F,0161,DNBE,3/08:28:22,3/09:16:21,150,F,0162,DNMM,3/10:28:57,3/11:15:42,150,F,0163,DNBE,3/12:00:00,3/12:46:45,150,F,0164,DNMM
AC#3,5N-

BPU,1%,WEEK,IFR,0/05:59:18,0/07:36:30,230,F,0181,DNKA,0/08:18:20,0/09:56:47,230,F,0182,DNMM,0/13:59:11,0/15:36:23,230,F,0183,DNKA,0/16:18:13,0/17:56:40,230,F,0184,DNMM,1/05:58:57,1/07:36:09,230,F,0181,DNKA,1/08:17:59,1/09:56:26,230,F,0182,DNMM,1/13:58:50,1/15:36:02,230,F,0183,DNKA,1/16:17:52,1/17:56:19,230,F,0184,DNMM,2/05:58:36,2/07:37:02,230,F,0181,DNKA,2/08:17:38,2/09:56:04,230,F,0182,DNMM,3/05:58:15,3/07:36:41,230,F,0181,DNKA,3/08:19:45,3/09:56:57,230,F,0182,DNMM

If word wrap is deselected, then this stops showing, but, to me, is rather inconvenient. Why on Earth this happens ?

Is there any workaround for this ?

As correcting all my 870 traffic files does not seem feasible.

I seem to remember noticing this when I first switched to Win7.

No idea why it does it but don't let it bother you, it does not affect how a .bgl creator handles the file.

You could always buy a real text editor like UltraEdit or get a free one like Notepad++. Both will provide better editing facilities than Notepad.

I know that getting another txt editor is an option.

My query is whether I can solve the minor issue or not.

When I put your first line into Notepad with wordwrap, I see proper condensed line with the exception of the first line which is:

AC#400,C-

This is because this version of Notepad treats the dash character as a carriage return+line feed. If there is no dash then the display is correct.  There is no way to fix it.
