Capt Sim 777 - PDGM 777

Recommended Posts

I have the Capt Sim 777 and love it but read somewhere that the PDGM 777 actually gets better frame rates. If you have both could post your findings?

I thought someone here would have both versions, guess not.

I have both, and in my experience the PMDG T7 does indeed get better frame rates. Not by a whole lot, maybe around 10 FPS max, but enough to be noticeable.

Thanks, I love the Capt Sim 777 but it is a dog on my system. I get 40 plus in heavy clouds with the Aerosoft Airbus set but only 17 to 21 with the CS 777 in same situation.

PMDG is a bit expensive so I have to have a good reason and 10 frame rates more is a great reason.

Alpha Floor I like your videos and hope you make more.

Thanks for the kind words Paul! That's the kind of input that keeps me doing more videos, really! They are not perfect by all means, but I believe I do more good than harm by releasing them :)

As to the price, well yes, the 777 is not cheap, but it's 100% worth the money. I like to regard the PMDG 777 as a simulation of the 777 on its own right, not as an "FSX addon". We can say that FSX is the add-on to be able to run the PMDG 777 and not the other way round. In fact, if you changed the product's User Agreement and turned it into a "professional" software sold for real world training, it would multiply its price by 100.

I love the Capt Sim 777

Why specifically?

Do you have the 1.7 version? Does it actually work like it should?

Latest version works for me. I really am an amatuer and not good at setting up FMC for autoland but the Capt Sim seems to be easy and even I can setup  a flight that autolands each time. The only thing is for some reason I cannot get the throttles to reverse on landing.

But,,,and it's a big one,,,it really trashes your frame rates and that is why I posted the question. I like the 777 but want a better version with better frame rates.

I really wanted to buy the 747 but as it is not even in beta yet I might not live that long so the 777 will fill in until.

I own both the PMDG 777 and CS 777 for P3D.  Both work great and I see little to no difference in fps.  I do not see how anyone can tell the difference in frame rates for these aircraft as it all depends on your POV and system. I think the PMDG VC is a bit harder on FPS but that's I could never tell you how I feel that way.  If it is a nice and sunny day with no clouds out, the fps in the PMDG 777 are great.  If the weather outside is bad, the FPS in the PMDG 777 are bad.  If I do a side view, it gets better, if I look straight at the VC, FPS suffer but you can go into the settings and change the performance settings if they are not good. The FMC has always been difficult to program for many but both versions handle well when the FMC is in use.  The major difference between the developers is the price.  If I get a chance, I'll do a flight using the fsuipc log to measure the fps for a short flight for each aircraft.

CS777 is worse than PMDG's 777 in almost every aspect i can think of:

- Framerate / Smoothness;

- Memory utilization (lower with PMDG's model);

- Actual aircraft performance (Engines, Climb/Cruise/Descent, etc);

- Exterior model (dimensions, detail);

- Systems reliability (can you actually trust the simulation to behave as expected);

The only thing CS777 is 'better' at is the package offer. It offers all three engines (with the caveat performance is all wrong), cabin model (what for, really) and the price is lower.

"- Actual aircraft performance (Engines, Climb/Cruise/Descent, etc);"

That is my #1 issue with the CS 777.  It's flight dynamics are terrible;  in my opinion, the aircraft doesn't handle like a heavy air frame.  Even at $10, I have put this aircraft into mothballs.  Concerning the FPS, I see little difference, as Jim articulated...

The CS777 was recently upgraded to v1.7 and I really enjoy the fact you can now request your flightplan in the FMC (like the PMDG) and request Performance data (like in the PMDG).  Makes programming the FMC's a bit easier.

Now, what am I going to do with all of these 777's installed in P3D.... :smile:   Hope this helps.
