I am currently flying a QualityWings 757, although this probably applies to other vendors/models as well.

During the flight the aircraft controls the throttle and therefore throttle position.  For obvious reasons, these movements do not transfer to my Saitek throttle quadrant.

Therefore, when I switch off the A/P and A/T for a hands-on landing my Saitek throttle is at full on position.  This doesn't seem to be an issue as long as I don't touch it, but because I need to, there is a burst of speed when I first move it.

Once I pull the throttle back far enough the burst disappears, but it is really a guess at what point it needs to come back to match, or slightly lower my current speed.

I can work with that, but I was curious as to how others handle it. 

 

BTW, I've tried to match the positions during flight and the A/P really doesn't care much for my interference. :-)

The aircraft should ignore throttle inputs when autothrottle is engaged, so you should be able to pull the throttle back before disengaging AT. I know in the PMDG 737 and 777 there is a setting for this. I also have the QW 757, and as far as I can remember, it also ignores my throttle with AT engaged. I don't think there is a setting for it.

Even the default planes ignore throttle lever position when autothrottle is engaged.

 

Throttle position upon AT disconnect depends on the airplane. You need to keep a bit of power on in a 727 or it will drop like a stone.

Thanks guys, I just had a chance to confirm it during the flight I am currently on from KSFO to PHLI,  

 

I'll try adjusting the Saitek throttle before I turn off the AT instead of after and see if that addresses the power burst issue.
