Pilot2ATC vs VOX

Recommended Posts

John,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I think I'll wait until v2 is out of beta and hopefully the developer will have a demo using version 2.

Good idea Mike.

PF3 does an OK job at the moment, without native voice interaction, and who knows Vox may appear from nowhere!

I look forward to the challenge of using P2A in full, but until it is out of Beta there are plenty of niggles to fix.

Hey there, spotted your old thread and wondered if you made any choices since then..

I started a thread over here, trying to decide between voxatc 7 (beta avail), pilot2atc, proatc x, pf3 etc...

I want something with built in voice control like VOX.. that isnt hard to manipulate in flyinsidefsx or kills fps.. ill probably try the beta and see how it goes with vox (i'm primarily in VR now)

Right now i'm using P2A. It's in beta,as is Vox. The difference is, the developer is engaged with his customers. There are usually weekly updates and sometimes more often if there's a bug. The Vox beta is, um, different. The beta was put out there almost a month ago, but there has been little to no interaction with the developer. No updates have been released so there's no way to tell what, if anything, has been fixed. They both have demos available so I would give them a try and see how they work on your system.

This. Dave, the creator of P2A, responds to bugs with weekly builds, or even sooner if more severe bugs find their way into the program and he also responds to problems that are reported on the forum daily. I don't regret purchasing P2A a bit.

I have found the voice recognition in P2A to be very good.

ATC nearly always understands what I am saying and if not, I am asked to repeat what I have just said or if I am on the wrong frequency, I am told to check the radio setting.

Very good implementation of the program.

I have always been a bit wary of using voice control when using Vox, but P2A makes it very easy and satisfying when you get it right.

I am using P2A v2 right now .Personally I think having a heading bug or directions to your runway like some of the other atc softwares implement is unrealistic because in real life no one would give you directions. You would have look at a chart. I am all about making this Simulation as real as possible.

Vectoring is not uncommon in real life. You would likely not be vectored under VFR. PF3 both in IFR and VFR allows varying degrees of pilot control. So you can have vectoring or dispense with it all together if you want.

Vectors are common in crowded areas like the U.S. east coast - anything to move the rush hour traffic through faster.  Spend some time on FlightAware and look at the actual vs. cleared tracks, especially in prime time.  To me, vectoring is realism.

I was referring to having vectors to your runway on the ground during taxi. I was responding to one of the early posts saying that voxatc provides the green lights pathway, and a hrading bug to your runway during taxi.

I have the control panel running on a separate monitor so it doesn't interfere with the "aircraft" monitor at all. The second monitor is just plugged into the second output on my graphics card, no networking or anything required.

I would think it would be very difficult to enjoy using P2ATC while flying if you had to constantly "bring it to the front" to refer to it.

I use the "sayit" function at the moment, before I move on to using voice control..hopefully.. and you need constant access to the P2ATC control panel during flights to use it. With a second monitor that is no problem.

Are we assuming Vox ATC is now effectively dead as far as P3D is concerned? Looks like it.

To quote you yes it is very difficult to enjoy P2A when you have to keep pausing the game to back to it. In voxatc the reply screen has a window in the p3d so no need to leave the simulator. Makes it easier. I do like p2a eye candy though. Approach plates, the satellite screen , the fact that atc says heavy after yall call sign or all plus for me but just cant get around leaving the sim for any reason. Voxatc doesnt even refer to your aircraft as heavy.

What a pity voxatc was dead !

the previous béta 7.2 was no so bad at all. It would be OK like that for me...

We have now to look after  P2ATC.

I dont like too that it need a window especially for it...

but no choice...

P2A now has a virtual FO that tunes radios and will respond to ATC calls. The only time you have to communicate is Clearance delivery, pushback, taxi to runway and contacting tower when established on final. Once you've done it a few times it becomes second nature. The program is in constant update and the developer has a forum on Avsim and is very responsive. The only downside with P2A for me is that it doesn't interact with AI traffic so you don't hear radio calls. That may change in the future though.
