March 17, 201610 yr Never in a million years would I go back to FSX. :Shame On You: P3D has turned out to be the dream sim for me. Best performance I have ever had in my 15 years+ flight sim experience and visuals that I would never want to give up again. Some might say that visuals are not important only FPS count, well, for me, it's about how much immersion a simulation can give you and P3D does immerse me like never before. And... every time LM comes out with a new version, it's just the icing on the cake and I get to be excited like child again. That said, I understand that some people want to stick to their running system if they're happy with it. Cheers And P.S./BTW: I don't have a super dooper (reindeer pooper ) card. Just a 770 4GB and it does a very good job. Nizar Thabti VATSIM Germany - RG Frankfurt My AI paints: ntflight.tk
March 17, 201610 yr For FSX the few times I reinstalled, I did not look forward to it. For P3D with the last couple of versions, I look forward to the improvements, which have been for me the performance. It went from micro stutters to almost very smooth. And of course the installs are a lot easier and faster now. So, no, not going back to FSX. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
March 17, 201610 yr I have just purchased and installed P3D. I have kept my FSX-SE install because I am not about to purchase my PMDG planes again. Still evaluating which I like better. P3D definitely has some nice visuals in the distance, haze, shadows, lighting, etc. Other than that I don't see much difference in the performance. Same opinion here! March 17, 201610 yr Back to FSX? Never. The Steam Editio-...oh, we're talking about P3D here. Well, that's a no-go then. Not getting a credit card for a bloody piece of software. 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days
March 17, 201610 yr I came back to FSX. I first tried P3Dv3.0 but after a short while I dumped it to go back to FSX. I next tried P3Dv3.1 but have returned yet again to FSX. P3D would be great if I was willing to spend $1500 for a video card and another $1000 on a 4K monitor in addition to buying a newer processor than my existing i7-4770. Throw lots of money at P3D and it probably would look and perform fine; otherwise you just end out with a sim that has poor FPS and lousy anti-aliasing (in comparison to FSX). Mike Mann
March 17, 201610 yr I gave P3D 3.0 a try back in the fall and went back to FSX soon after. I hated P3D's water. I never could get P3D's anti-aliasing to look as good as FSX (with Nvidia Inspector). I couldn't deal with the micro-stutters (no support for full screen mode and vertical sync less than 60 Hz). I could be wrong, but I get the impression that a lot of the folks that are so impressed with P3D's performance never had their FSX set up correctly to begin with. MD
March 17, 201610 yr Yeah, I went back to FSX:SE after P3Dv3. I never found it as a huge improvement as some folks have made it out to be. Sure, it looks better, but it certainly performs worse on my end. I had to do a lot of tweaking just for it to get a stable frame rate, but then when I threw lots of clouds in the mix, you can forget about any decent frame rates. I do keep it on my HDD for some VFR flying, but any airliner flights are done on FSX:SE only. But I know it runs good for some people, but I can't justify getting a 970 or 980 Ti (or some in cases 2X Titans). and less of an improvement if you have DX10 Fixer. Mark CYYZ
March 17, 201610 yr To keep myself honest, I have to ask myself, "What does Prepar3D offer outside of eye candy over FSX:SE?" Better performance? Only in certain circumstances. Better VAS management? Not really. Updated major airports? No. Up to date NAVAIDs? No. Better weather engine? No. 3D clouds? No. Better terrain textures? Maybe? I still go with FTX Global textures anyway. A revamped terrain system e.g. terrain following runways? No. Better flight model? No. If Prepar3D had some of those improvements out of the box, then maybe I could justify spends hundreds of dollars for new hardware, but until then, it would be hundreds of dollars for just eye candy. I have plenty of eye candy already. Just peruse through my Greece tour album. http://imgur.com/a/Tpzg3 Daniel Moser
March 17, 201610 yr The best thing about FSX is that it doesn't change. The best thing about P3D is that it does change. That's deep. Mark CYYZ
March 17, 201610 yr Better VAS management? Not really. What do you mean? Wasn't that one of the improvements LM made? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery

Shadows, subtle lighting on the horizon, glare, etc. It does this incredibly well although I find it shimmers a bit more than I would have expected. Mark CYYZ

March 17, 201610 yr I am struggling with the decision to either get a refund or replace my GTX570 which simply does not cut it in P3Dv3.2 I have FSX/DX10 running very well with no issues regarding fps or AA Initially P3Dv3.2 seemed to run well enough but I cannot get the AA to a reasonable quality unless I use 4xSGSS which kills my GFX card. throw in a reasonable amount of Ai and the fps drop badly, something FSX/D10 copes with very well on this PC Cloud shadows aside FSX/DX10 actually runs and looks better especially around payware airports where P3D's poor AA really shows up and also the water in DX10 mode looks much better. I tend to Sim less during the summer months so I may get the refund and see where the GFX card prices are later in the year.
March 17, 201610 yr I have tried to go back to FSX:SE several times because I thought I wanted to fly some older aircraft (LevD 767, PMDG MD-11). But each time I would scrap that plan in a day or two because the feel and maturity of Prepar3D far outclasses FSX in my estimation. In the end, the loss of a few addons from FSX is far outweighed by the improvements made to the platform under P3D. Performance is generally on-par between the two, but for some reason I feel that I get far better performance out of my PMDG 737 and 777 under Prepar3D than I ever did out of FSX. I also do a lot of highly time accelerated flight, and P3D seems to keep up with the texture loading far better than FSX ever could. Chances are, in a few weeks I'll get the itch to fly one of those restricted addons and I'll slap my Win7 build on my computer again... only to get it about 99% configured before I blow it up, slap my Win10 build on the computer and return to P3D. Darnit - all this talk is now making me want to make the switch again tonight.
