Solved: Very bad performance after adding a second GTX 980ti

Recommended Posts

Hi gents,

Help needed! :-)

Since I installed a second GPU in SLI, fps are falling down and P3P is stuttering like never before.

Driver uninstalled using DDU, latest Nvidia 364.51 installed, SLI activated via NCP, shaders deleted, new P3P.cfg created... I have tried everything to no avail.

Both cards are identical, MSI GTX 980ti Gaming 6Gb and are running perfectly well.

Is there any specific SLI setting in NI I should apply?

Any help or idea would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
David Roch

Issue solved.

I am using the Opencockpit FMC which is plugged to one of the GPUs.

Resolution is 800x600 when my monitor is native 2560x1440.

It seems this device doesn't like my new SLI rig!

I unplugged it and everything went back to normal.

I have to figure out now how to make it work with double GPUs.

BTW I notice a nice improvement on blurries with the SLI.

Frames are gently climbing as well so I am really happy with this (heavy!) investment.

I believe today I can really get the best of P3D is able to deliver to a 32bits platform.

Not perfect but very enjoyable indeed.

:-)

I have a CDUII and the FMC within the ngx needs to be undocked and moved. SLI is not happy with that so i am only using it with VFR GA.

Just went thru that myself, what i found that worked well for me was I deleted the p3d.cfg and allowed it to rebuild under the new graphics settings,

Works like a treat now

364 is a BAD driver David - go back to 361.

Altho that's the .47 - I still would be hesitant.

Hi David,

Can't speak for the 364 but the 361.91 drivers seem to be working very well for me. If it ain't broke and all that :)

Mike

Just checked and I'm running 364.51 and haven't noticed any issues.

In what way is this driver bad?

The .47 driver had severe stutters and artifacts. Nvidia pulled it quickly. I assume the .51 is a "fixed" version but I would probably wait for at least one more, unless there's something specific the driver fixed that I needed.

Ah, I see.

Well, the .51 version seems to be working fine so far but will keep what has been said here in mind should I find any issues down the road with this version.

That must be a completely new driver, then? Could be that my horrible performance and stutters derived from the version .47

Hmm...you guys are almost convincing me to downgrade here even when I don't have any problems :D

What version of the 361 drivers do you recommend? I noticed there are three of them (.43, .75, .91).

Also I guess it can be relevant what version of P3D you're running...? I'm running Prepar3D_v3_Professional_3.2.3.16769.

Well, I've been out of the business for too long and I forgot this one.

You are right Michael.
