Ultimate Terrain means major stutters for me :(

Recommended Posts

Guest crabster

I installed Ultimate Terrain and immediately noticed a huge increase in stutters at low level. I then patched it to the latest version and got a slight improvement but for example when on finals to any airport, I get a very slow slide show almost to the point where it is impossible to land. Any ideas? I've backed off my sliders-again a slight improvement, I run Ultimate traffice but have lowered the ai setting to "what's the point of having ai". I need some help here guys. Oh and this occurs in either the default aircraft or addons. On the other hand at high altitudes UT is incredible and has really woken up FS9. Any help appreciated.Andy

Turn off the enhanced residential roads. It should make a huge difference in performance for very little sacrifice in visuals. UT is awesome, and I think you'll love it once you get it working well for you.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]BEVBetaSig.jpg

Tony's advice is right on. I run UT without residential streets or residential lighting and it works much better and I think it actually looks more realistic without them. However, it really shouldn't have given you the kind of hit you describe with your hardware. I had only a very slight performance hit with UT and I'm only running a 2.6 P4 with 1 gb of RAM. If turning off the residential streets and lights don't significantly improve your performance, stop over to the Ultimate Terrain forum and I'm sure they'll be happy to try and help you out.Jim

Like someone said with your "Uber" system you should see hardly any difference in performance between UT and no-UT. I see none on mine (specs below). I'm tweaking away so I'll let ya know how I make out.As a side note, amazing how even with a high end system, that one has to disable features to get something to work. Thanks again guys for your advice!

This IS true. Look at my system, I cannot run UT with all settings checked "on" at night, it's almost a slideshow, certainly not flyable in any sense. Day is better but still not that great. I will disable what was mentioned and look again but as it is I am thinking of deleting this program off my drive (not that other users do not have great results it's just because I fly in the Bay Area alone these days and have a nice VFR scenery already)...[h4]Randy J.
