Windows 10 Update wrecked my addon registrations?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had this today?  I got a pretty big windows 10 update and now FSDT software is detecting a machine mismatch?  I've had several addons ask to register between P3D and Xplane 10.  What gives?  Anyone have any ideas why this would happen or what this update was about?

Edit: My P3D crashes instantly trying to load any aircraft or airport now....

This is one of the reasons that I stayed with W7. I do not like Microsoft changing things on my PC when they feel like it.

I've actually been very impressed with W10 now for quite some time.  This is my first serious hiccup that I've had.  Reboot cured P3D crashing.  Still unsure why an update had to change a hardware ID....  So far all seems back to normal.

Which is why I totally disabled their Updates. With Windows 10, it seems no matter what program you choose to open say an image, or a browser, Microsoft insists on wanting to change the association back to what they shipped with 10

I am having a new computer built as we speak.  I specifically ordered Win7 Professional which is what I'm running now.  All works fine.  I have the control.  If it ain't broke don't fix it.  As far as I am aware MS said they will support Win7 until 2020....that's a four year window before I need to worry about a new operating system.

Add-on Manager is extremely sensitive to any change in the system. Update your chipset or sata drivers. You'll get the same result. All you have to do is reactivate it. It's pretty simple. Here and there one will fail. Just go back into add-on manager in the menu and run the activation again. Annoying yes, but not a show stopper. X-plane uses SASL for authentication. The hash key probably changed in the update.

As for the windows update. There haven't been any cumulative updates in the past several weeks. So it probably installed an old update.

In short, thank the pirates for these protocols.

Reinstall add-on manager from the fsdreamteam website.

I have the control.

Windows 10 pro allows the same control... See my sig. That's a small percentage of the IT certs I hold.

Nice certs my friend.  I have the CCNA and going for the NP R&S.  One more test to go!  I love W10, just dont like that they uninstalled my companys VPN because they felt it was outdated....  So far all is back to normal now.  Happy simming!

Do you have smart screen on? Or maybe have windows update set to automatically install updates and drivers? I turned all of that off via GPO and haven't had a single issue.

I struggled with this also for a long time after a Win 10 update back in december. I finally found the cause for this. It was Winzips File Association Helper that boots with Windows. I disabled this from booting with Windows. Problem fixed.

Why? Do you think that pirates have tampered with his PC?

Thanks!  Not sure about smart screen but I do have windows updates on.  I don't think I have a way to access GPO on home edition unless there is another way.

Well, just read that the next big W10 update is due to be released this July, called "Anniversary Update". I am pretty sure that with this update, all those re-activations will go into the next round...

I think his point is that the anti-piracy software wouldn't be needed if piracy wasn't such an issue for FS developers.

In other words it were not pirates that installed "things" without his knowledge or permission on his computer but rather Microsoft took the liberty to do this in order to protect their finances. :fool:
