Will All Of These Components Work Together?

Recommended Posts

Here's the link to the components I am thinking about getting:

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=22043014

My goal is to have 2 computers.  The one I'll be building will run P3Dv3 and will be on one monitor.  I have in this list a separate computer I plan to run with Aivlasoft EFB and PFPX, Topcat, etc.  I want to connect the two computers via a LAN network so that they communicate with each other.  The kvm switch is so that I can only get by with using one wireless keyboard and mouse for the two computers.  I plan on running 2 monitors with my auxiliary computer so that Aivlasoft EFB, charts, etc. will be on one monitor and then PFPX and TOPCAT would be on another monitor.  Would my choice for secondary computer work with 2 monitors?  Basically, I want to make sure that I'm getting everything I need to complete my setup.  I have no experience building computers and am going to have someone assemble it for me.  Also, is the 850W power supply adequate for the build?

Thanks,

Rob

I'd get a GTX 980 Ti over the titan - just a personal opinion...  I think it's a waste of money unless you're doing multimonitor (per one PC) and 4k etc.

Also I'd get the GSkill ripjaws V (for skylake).... 2X8 GB ddr4 3200mhz should be good

Addon Sound blaster is overkill these days unless you're really into sound quality and noting the differences between them/audiophile.  However I think you may be able to have separate headset sounds and in-game sounds if you do have a addon card.

Also check out Synergy+ instead of KVM...  I've used it in the past, uses the network to switch your mouse between PC monitors/computers.

Your PSU is plenty for the 980 Ti - not sure on the titan.

Sounds good. Thanks Ryan! I like the idea of Synergy a lot more than a kvm. I think I will stick with the titan for now since I plan to go 4k in the future. I take your advice on the memory.

Get yourself an Asus motherboard - had many Gigabytes and they dont compare to Asus - Rob talked me into it and was the best info he has ever passed on to me - Gigabyte bios is crap also

Alright, I've changed to an ASUS motherboard and the Gskill RipJaws V.  I've also decided to change to a 1000W power supply after reading a little bit more online.  Does the final configuration look good?  I know nothing about motherboards and don't know if the one I selected is good.

No thats not the right motherboard its for amd - not intel - give me few mins

Here you go - the best is the Formula VIII - I have the VII its rock solid but expensive - next in-line I would go for a hero - they are all good

They have open box versions that are cheaper if you look your call on that - I dont think I would buy an open box motherboard

As for ram I use corsair platinums best ram i ever used - i will get back to you on the proper ones

I updated my wishlist to include the Hero as per your recommendation.

Thanks for all your help.

I just built my new rig with very similar specs.  I recommend getting the non-Alpha version of the Maximus VIII Hero board, as you'll save money, the only thing the Alpha has over the other is RGB headers.

The board has extremely good on-board audio, I'd ditch the sound card.

Not a big fan of the case, but then again that's a very personal choice.

Also, I'd still go one PC with 2 monitors.  That's what I do, and this setup absolutely has enough power to run everything at the same time.  That'll save you a very big chunk of money.

I removed the audio card. I'm not that big of an audiophile anyway.

Thanks

Here is the supported list of memory

Closest I could find in Platinums - cant find 2 - 8gig sticks on your supported list so you would have to make the call on using another brand if you dont wan to fill those ram slots

Or you could do what I did and go for 32 gig all slots filled depends on your funds

Onboard sound has made massive improvements in the last few years. Most people don't have good enough speakers/headphones, or hearing come to that, to notice the difference between onboard and discrete anyway.
