20 FPS INCREASE

Recommended Posts

Okay so I've been having serious stutter issues for the past week or so. When flying with any type of clouds my frames would drop considerably. I am using both REX 4 and ASN so i tried turning the settings down for both of them. Nothing changed. Today I installed Nvidia Driver 353.30 as a clean install and deleted my P3D shaders folder. I went and started up a flight at Taxi2Gate KMCO with the QW757 and active sky next weather running. My frames went from 27-31 when sitting on the ground to 48-55 while sitting on the ground and went from around 16-23 fps with massive stutters while flying through or looking at big clouds to not losing any fps. This was just a post to help anyone else having similar problems or people who would maybe like to see fps out of there sim. I'm using P3D v3.1 by the way.

I've had very good luck with the 353.30 driver. But,  I haven't tried the newer ones to have anything to compare to.  I'm using the "if it doesn't need fixin', don't fix it" rule.  I have a 980Ti card.

353.30 is a pretty old driver.

What made you chose that one?

I was reading on a form somewhere about someone getting an increase in fps using sli with this driver. I was desperate to fix my fps issues so I tried installing it and voila, all my stutters are gone.

This might be a fake effect, and any other driver might have done as well, it's just the re-installation. One scenario, as an example: You selected a high SGSS AA setting in NI, which gets lost during a driver new installation. This boosts fps, notably in clouds.

Kind regards, Michael

I've just installed 364.72 driver

With the previous driver (361 something) I was getting around 30 fps in an add on GA (lancair) now 60-70 fps. I have i5 4690 GTX970 8Gb.

This is P3D 3.2 in PNW , REX 4 TD plus ASN but not soft clouds

I had no idea they had 8gb versions of the 970.

I went from 364.72 back to 361.43. At first it seemed like it was better with less loads on the GPU but now I'm considering going back to 364.72.

Are you sure that the weather hadn't changed in the interim and caused less cloud density so you got an FPS boost?

I would eliminate variables and run with a stock weather for FPS tests.

Also @ what pmb said it's possible Nvidia inspector or something removed the SLI compatibility flags causing the FPS drop and a clean install fixed it?

353.30, great driver for my 980ti card also. been using that pretty long now, no stutter, great performance, overall a great driver. Thumbs up.

I'm getting ready to go with a 980Ti SC SLI setup and was wondering if the 353.30 would be considered as good as or better than the newer drivers for SLI.  It works great in my single-card setup.

Thanks,

Jeff

I do not recommend that driver. 364.72 is the way to go.

With my 760, I confirm that reverting to 353.30 has increased performance, especially when VC view is aiming at dense clouds (ASN/RexTD).

Not by 20fps as OP, but I keep a solid 28/30fps.

A keeper for me.

I have to try that out by my self. Currently on the latest driver (364.72) and performance, especially with dense clouds, is rather poor.

You will see this kind of hallelujah post from someone every time there is a new driver version. This has been the case for every driver version in every version of P3D/FSX/FS9 for about ten years now.

In about 99.9999999999% of the cases where someone installs a new graphics driver and gets a massive FPS boost though, it's because some settings have been reset to default values and/or that some really terrible old cache files have been cleaned up. The graphics drivers are already optimized to the extreme and the likelyhood of a huge FPS boost from one driver to another is close to zero.
