SkyMaxx Pro v3.1 is out.. check you e-mail..

Recommended Posts

I found mine in the 'Promotions' section of gmail. Anyway, downloaded and all setup in a short time. The changelog looks good, esp. landing light illuminating clouds, it's a good effect. Don't take the FPS too seriously - using 2500K (not oc here) with GTX970. A small preview...

Are the performance enhancements notable?

Maybe this will help those of us that get the 3fps with the Jar A320 and BSS sounds.... I got the e-mail too and will also be downloading...

Thanks for the heads-up.

Yep, just got the email update. Landing lights illuminating clouds sounds very cool. Time for some nighttime bad weather landings!

Do I have to remove v3 before installing 3.1 first? Or do I just run this installer over what I currently have?

Thanks in advance,

Run the installer, it will tell you to answer yes when asked to remove the previous version. It will then install the latest version

SMP is indeed a great add-on for XpX.

The author actively maintains it, adds new features, corrects problems with previous releases - more than worth the buy, and a true enhancements for the skies in XpX.

I am eagerly awaiting their upcoming "connector", which will be compatible with the NOAA plugin, my preferred weather injector for XpX right now.

Downloading v3.1 - will try it in 12 hrs only :-(

I'm wondering if this might be part of the update:

  • Performance enhancements to reduce "stutters" when new cloud conditions are loaded

I'll be downloading shortly.

I believe the connector has more to do with the reach of the coverage, based on neighbour METAR data.

They probably use some grid, with an extension beyond the usual scope of weather in XpX, to prepare the transitions and make them smoother. But of course I'm not sure about it.

Are you guys using the default settings?

I just took off from EGPH with everything on default in the JAR A320 and the FPS dropped to 18. My PC is no slouch. Guess will need to start adjusting things to find the sweet spot?

I noticed this topic previously: http://www.avsim.com/topic/485797-replacement-cloud-textures-whats-available-other-than-skymaxx/

Seems there's some massive memory issues on this aircraft, or SASL is just a hog in some way? I noticed a topic recently on another site which discussed SASL being out of memory on a different product (completely separate of this issue). Laminar dedicates 2GB for LUA/SASL/Gizmo.

I don't know all the magic behind the A320, so can't help you as much as I wish I could. If you open the SkyMaxx Pro config window and check the available memory, what does it say?

Thanks for the quick reply,

I have 1680MB currently free on My GTX980 TI STRIX.

I assume as in older versions the optimal starting point will be the default settings. I am going to jump in my trusty FF 767 and take her for a spin and see what transpires. Things did seem to settle down after a while. Maybe it was a one off.

Is there an explanation on what the new settings do? Quite a lot has changed it would appear

Richard

I have flown with the 3.1 update in several aircraft now in a variety of conditions and have noticed NO change in framerates.  I would not call my equipment "high end" but it does pretty well.

You can read the manual located in: X-Plane/resources/plugins/SilerLining

That's quite a bit, so it's not that (unless you were flying around somewhere with heavy scenery at the time you saw this effect?).

Thanks X-Aviation...just installed!

You're welcome!
