This airport is at 36°14′06″N 59°38′27″E (From Wikipedia). You then find the south east coordinate of the tile which is

(36, +59), so your tile number is 36+059. Use negative numbers for East, positive for West, negative for South

Also, you can try going here http://zonephoto.x-plane.fr/Cartes.php and enabling the Graticule. This will show you the globe in grids and you can look up the X,Y coordinate for each tile.

Tony, you wrote:

Didn't you mean: negative numbers for West, positive for East ?

These numbers really make me dizzy.

This is what i do , e.g. Goose Bay Alaska search it in google maps or any other map and see the area location and the coordinates and then goto viewfinderpanorama select that tile, sometimes I do make a mistake and select the wrong tile.

Hi guys!

Those numbers made me dizzy too, so I have implemented new feature into VfrFlight (http://vfrflight.org).

If you select 'Map Grid Layer' (1), and check 'Info under cursor' (2), you would get the name of HGT file that you need to use, and name of ZIP archive with that file that needs to be downloaded (from http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/Coverage%20map%20viewfinderpanoramas_org3.htm).

Just point cursor at any place to read info.

Enjoy :)

Hi lukasz, thank you very much for the information! I have been playing with ortho myself and created some stunning tiles. The coordinates were a little confusing but your suggestion will be very helpfull.
