What are your favorite UK2000 airports?

I'm a sucker for trains

Then you might want to look into Orbx Southampton as well. One runway end has a huge train depot you're overflying at low altitude, and there is also some train traffic near the terminal side. Lots of Q400 flying there, too - it's a Flybe base just like Edinburgh.

  • Edinburgh. Lovely embedded between waterways and the Scottish Highlands. Been flying into there for years. They receive some TATL service and lots of domestic FlyBe Q400 flying.

I have it and that's one reason I bought it!  Flying over trains out in the countryside is probably the coolest thing ever.  Still learning the Q.

Let's face it, all of Gary's Xtreme airports are good! By the way, for anyone who enjoys GA flying between Glasgow Xtreme and Edinburgh Xtreme, there is a UK2000 Xtreme version of Cumbernauld airfield available. This is located roughly halfway between those two large airports, so a nice little place to stop on your journey

So, in the end, my purchases at this point are:

  • London City
  • Bristol
  • Birmingham
  • Edinburgh
  • (I also have ORBX Southampton.)

That's a good start, right?  There are quite a few others I like but it's going to take some time for me to learn a lot about flying in England and the Q400 as well.

Very good start. London City is great. Heathrow is pretty ridiculous as well. I think I use Edinburgh the most.

The ones you picked are great for the Q400. Have fun and watch your airspeed when you drop the gear!

Hello Lee

Ref post #29 - would you be able to provide more information on the disabled files please? I cant find the right thread on the FTX forum.

Thanks

Rupert

Best regards

Rupert

To disable the appropriate ORBX file, you need to rename two types of files, the BGL and CVX files.  For instance, I have had an issue with EGCC (Manchester), which UK2000 and ORBX have conflicting files, so I rename the ADE_FTX_ENG_EGCC_CVX with a .old extension.  I also do this for the ADE_FTX_ENG_EGCC.BGL file.

So, I took my first Q400 flight today from Birmingham to Edinburgh (had to spend some days learning how to fly that beast (and my mind uses different words...trust me).  Man, what a handful.  But, thanks to an abbreviated checklist and being a bit tolerant of errors (none too bad), I got through the flight.  Still not sure if I like that plane but I remember that I disliked the J41 before I loved it...so maybe.  In any case the airports are very well done.  Glad I got them.  They really add to Orbx England nicely.  I think I'll do the return trip in another plane, though.

3 files have to be disabled. Always check if there is an objects file as well, something like EGCC_objects.
