Occasional crashes on Win10

Recommended Posts

hi guys, i just finished putting together a new rig and everything went well until the last minute (murphy's law ofcourse)...where my FSX is experiencing occasional crashes and i  am not sure where to start fixing this. I removed PMDG 737 and still have crashes. So the easy question to anyone out there using FSX with win10: are there any specific setting i should use and mostly not use? direct x 10? anything else? other that this is workign pretty well i must say. I am like that close to perfection if only i didn't have this random crashes.

thank you

Be more specific with crashes, what kind of crash? what error messages in the windows logs and messages on the screen? Have you followed the avsim guide for setting up your fsx like highmemfix and the uianimationcore? - David Lee

Hey Andrea,

You may want to check out the following link :

http://www.simforums.com/forums/the-fsx-computer-system-the-bible-by-nickn_topic46211.html

I followed this religiously when setting up my then brand-new system two years ago and have not had any issues with FSX to this day.  I'm not sure if all of this would work under Windows 10 as well though.  Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Emile Bax.

The piece of information that I keyed into, maybe incorrectly, was that this is a BEX error. There is much out there on the Buffer Overflow Exception as well as the exception code that translates into unauthorized access violation.  Many things can cause it, even an antivirus program. Don't use the DX10 stuff, Windows 10 is at DX12 so I'm not sure what you gain.

I just finished a new build a couple weeks ago and ran into problems with NVidia drivers.... in my opinion all the drivers numbered 362 and higher are buggy. I am sticking to 361.43 for now.

Good luck.

I am actually not using any Direct X 10.

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled FSX Sp1 and Sp2. I am running it without any add on. Sliders in the middle to not over-stress the system and flying a default Cessna. Looks beautiful until it crashes and it may take 1h to crash. When i go an look at the report I get the same BEX error pasted below. I am doing some homework on line and seems to be related to DEP (Data Execution Prevention) a feature than can be disabled BUT no in WinX, not for FSX. When i add it to the list of program exempted from DEP it tells me no no....

I am not surrendered though...i'll get this sucker to work sooner or later in Win 10.

I also started implementing some suggestion from the aforementioned "bible" (man is long to read) including the  highmemfix and the uianimationcore and flying as we speak...until next crash. BTW the crash is just a pop up saying windows encountered a problem and needs to close FSX...(thanks!!!).

Also keep in mind that this is a new rig. Other than Win10 and updated drivers i installed NOTHING. This morning i did install another program which is pretty heavy on CPU and memory just to be sure the PC i put together is solid and I got no crashes or anything. I think my hardware and OS are pretty ok! it;s just that FSX and this new rig are yet not gettign along too well.

Thank you all. Will keep you updated

I don't think is the drivers. They are the most up to date. And sure is not PMDG as it wasn;t installed yet. It's an issue with FSX and Win 10. Anyway. it's been almost 48 hours that i have been flying non stop  and not crashes...for now..... I think highmemfix and the uianimationcore did it! along with some other controlling features of Win 10 that i was able to disable.

Keeping finger crossed.

btw

WIn 10 is pretty sweet!! boots in like 5 seconds!

As I already anticipated I finally managed to fix all the critical crashes of FSX in Win 10, finally i can complete a flight but I have one last annoyance left which is not critical but an annoyance nevertheless and happens only with PMDG 737.

When I end the flight crashes my FSX! this is what i get:

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: fsx.exe

any fix for this?
thank you

Well, and so does the crash, but with an application error...

I wouldn't recommend going back to the FSX menu to then start a new flight, by the way. Although I personally never experience any crashes on exiting - maybe because I use the Steam Edition -  it's always better to restart the simulator. Otherwise weird things can happen. For example: When I start a flight with the NGX, exit it and immediately start it again, my outside cameras are always messed up and way closer to the aircraft as they ought to be.

Had the exact same problem.  Reverted back to Windows 7, completely cured the problem.
