Can't view YouYube videos in HD?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Recently, I noticed that I can no longer view videos, or YouTube video is HD, 1080p or higher.

I'm using the latest Windows Internet Explorer version 11.

This was a recent change.

What is going on?

Youtube now runs html5 so your browser may noe be able to interpret the high resolution. It's the same with Firefox. Flash is no longer supperted by firefox so most firefox users download an addon from Mozilla which runs YT in flash as before.

I could try Firefox, but just don't understand why IE doesn't support this?

Not sure why YouTube switched as HD functioned in IE11 prior to whatever they did. Flash support is a security risk... so...

However, Microsoft won't update IE11 any further because it's not part of Win10.

I do not have any addons for Firefox to run YouTube videos and they work and display just fine.

Not true.  Internet Explorer 11 is included with Windows 10 along with the Edge browser.

To the OP although I regularly use Firefox I just tried IE11 and the Edge browser and had no trouble viewing 1080p YouTube videos using both browsers.  I don't know why it isn't working for you.  The only suggestion I can give is try increasing you browser cache settings and see if that helps.  I have mine set at 1024 MB.

That depends on what version of windows you are running and what version of Firefox.

TPerson,

I tried expand the Cache to 1024, but it didn't help.

My browser used to work fine before, but now the best I can do is 720i.
