John V, states that any P3D v4.x ports will carry an upcharge fee

Recommended Posts

Has PMDG said what their policy is going to be?  I'd like one but they pushed me away with their pricing decision into P3D.  I had two.  Wouldn't want that to happen again.

I think Robert has stated that updates to PMDG products for P3D would be free for Version 1, 2, 3 but will be a completely new purchase for 64 bit V4.

Orbx have stated that there will be a price increase, starting in June/July. Could we expect P3Dv4, around that time as well? There have been whispers on this very forum, that P3Dx64/v4 isn't that far away.

I would think that there is some back-pressure with the soon release of a 64 bit product from Dovetail  AND.........it's usual to glean more from John's comments, in between the lines, than right on top of 'em.  He is good that way....he tells you what he can...and WHEN he can....like read between the lines. (smile)...............my humble take, on that matter....

It is also my belief, that you WILL see a price increase for all P3D 3.x installer products, when L.M. does put out their v4.0 version, because if it is a 64 bit product...there will be a stampede of people deciding to stay with their invested 32 bit portfolio....and that could be a money generator impetus for all developers to ride the download frenzy.  This has happened before in other areas of commerce. It could just as well happen within this hobby.

That was one of the reasons that I decided to get what had been on my wish list in one fell swoop...as well as some of the titles at 33 percent off at the moment.  I wanted to be behind the wave, and not riding it....forward, lol.

P3D v3.2.3 is a good enough product that delivers performance enough for me to now be able to 'sit in the bush' and see how all this 64 bit this n' that turns out. If it is a real door opener...I'll perhaps buy in at some time. If not...and merely allows more use of your system memory...than I am in a very good place to enjoy 32-bit legacy.

We'll all have to pore over his next vids to see if we can spot anything that indicates its a new P3D version

I was the first to spot V3 in his Youtub Videos,  But nobody believed me

Especially for a non entertainment product.

There are separate Orbx license options for commercial use of the scenery. No need to raise that old chestnut in this discussion.

What RR said back in Jan 2015,

x64 UPDATES:

============

It is anticipated that P3D will be offered in an x64 variation at some point in the future.  PMDG will be monitoring development of the x64 version of P3D in order to manage the process by which we begin offering x64 compatible versions of our products for P3D users.

Based on our knowledge of the process at this time, we anticipate that x64 upgrades will be made available to licensed users of PMDG products at no cost.  This information is subject to change pending the development, testing and release of an x64 version of P3D.

That's a relief.  Okay, thanks.

John V. has stated that when P3D v4.x comes out of the gate, new port over installers will have an upcharge fee attached to them, and passed onto the Consumer.

Did John V. mention that we could expect an improvement in their products performance or features for the upcharge?

Orbx Southern California could definitely use some performance tuning..

Actually no. Updates to 64-bit, if when it happens will be free.

I suspect that this will be more or less contingent on how receptive DTG FS is , not just to user base, but to 3PDs as well. DTG promises all new enhanced programming tools and if many bugs and limitations are removed from the old FSX foundation that have not been stamped out already by LM, we may see a shift in product development especially if it means less time and resources on a product. Can even mean less licesning fees like PMDG products because its labelled commercial vs entertainment. Irregardless, our flight simming world will have some radical changes in the upcoming year or two.

I dont have a problem with small upcharges. I recognize time need to be put in and its part of any hobby if your upgrading stuff. It also keeps our developers alive. What I dont like is being charged double or the same price. This is a reasonable go between.

There is absolutely NO CREDIBLE evidence that Version 4 will be 64bit. Possible? Sure but, at this point, PURELY speculation. All LM has said for years now is that 64bit is a definite consideration but they will maximize 32bit before switching.

TMK, they have not changed that stance.

Personally, I don't see it as a problem down the road as a new major version will require a complete reinstall anyway.

Has LM ever actually said they are working on a 64-bit version? In a public statement? If so, when and where?

"As you know we're almost finished with porting around 130 products to the new quad installers. This has been a monumental task taking over six months and costing in excess of AU$100,000 in development costs"
What's the percentage cost with respect to the sale that they generate?  Cost has to be seen in relative term, not absolute.  The installers cost, sure, but what content are these installers do?  If the contents are advertised as designed for specific platform, sure, but same content across the board?  The increase has to be value added.  For me it's very simple, unless P3D 4 is very compelling, I will just stay with 3.x.
