NOAA plugin

Recommended Posts

I hear people say that NOAA plugin has stability issues. Is this true? Which program are you guys using to depict your weather any why?

I bought SkyMax Pro and RWC today. While I love the first one I'm not sure about the second one. Also keep in mind that RWC is not a weather injector. It only enhances every weather engine you use, be it stock xplane or others.

That's good to hear. I'm still dreaming of Active Sky Next Xplane edition though.

I do not have NOAA installed yet.

I have Xplane10 using on Win7-64.

Do I have to know programming to get it installed?

I've been using FS Global Real Weather.

Vincent,

How do you like it?

Is it easy on Frame Rates?

No, its easy to installed. If I'm not mistaken, the win net installer will do that for you. But all this will not be necessary once 10.50 comes out.

Alex,

Thanks for the NOAA link .. I will have a look.

Will Xplane 10.5 include NOAA or what will it have?

AFAIK, 10.50 will include winds aloft coverage for the whole World.

The NOAA plugin prsently does already a bit more - turbulence zones and other SIGMET areas.

I've been using FS Global Real Weather.

I was going to join their forum after giving full name, birthday, e-mail, doing username / password setup etc ...

but could complete the joining process without also joining [opting into] one of their [required as a last step to join their forum / signup process] Advertising sites .. like to have a company rep call about their product or service or doing surveys from your home.

So I stopped the forum sign up process right their.

I read in a post that their download would allow 20 usages of their program before a purchase KEY would be required. A try before you buy.

So I downloaded and installed .. only to discover there was no free trial ....

Other developers do offer (e.g. FS DreamTeam) free time limit trials ...

And I did not see any mention of a e.g. 30 day money back (like Flight One wrapper purchase) if their program did not work properly on your system...

Even LM P3D purchase has a 30 (or 60) day money back return policy.

So, at that point, I deleted the FS Global Real Weather program from my hard drive until I get more information ...

AFAIK, 10.50 will include winds aloft coverage for the whole World.

Thanks for the follow up information.

Will (10.50) winds aloft include the winds aloft current temperature at each altitude.

I have read that Xplane does not allow other programs (like FS Global Real Weather) to inject actual Upper level temperatures .. which is need .

I don't really know, appart from the aloft ( model-based ) winds ...

Temperatures and geopotential height would be welcome too... Something that will probably come only with XP11....

Alex,

The link you gave me got me the NOAA Download ZIP and the Documents ZIP.

The documents ZIP had a Documentation.pdf which had the install instructions.

At the end of the install instructions was a happy ending ...

"You can follow all those steps and install everything manually, or you can use this

http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/15881-ground-services-and-more-net-installer-windows-only/

It installs ALL (Python, Sandy's Python X-Plane Interface, NOAA, and

other plugins (optional)). JUST WORKS ON WINDOWS!!! (32 & 64) "

I am really bad with programming .. so I was really glad to get the full products automatic installer.

Got it all installed (I used the 64 bit choice for my Win7-64).

Got the plugin into Xplane10 ok.

Now all I need to know is how to download NOAA Wx.

Any station I ask for Metar I get station not available .. so I assume I need to download the current WX??

Nope,

In the plugins menu, open the NOAA sub-menu. In the settings GUI you will find 3 alternatives for automatic METAR download. I always left mine at NOAA.

You should not enable X-Plane's own auto fetch. Even if you do, the NOAA plugin will disable it by itself when it starts...

Beware that there is a specific case when used with the X-aviation Weather Connector. The Connector doesn't cope well with the way the NOAA plugin does it's job, so, you chose the 2nd option in the Connector menu ( something that contains "Always", don't remember because I reverted to plain default X-Plane weather... ).
