Clean installation of P3D

Is there a certain way and/or order to install add-ons into your P3D?

After you Install Prepar3D.........

 

First Insure you are running Prepar3D as administrator   Right click on Prepar3D,  Click Into Properties, Compatibility,  Tick the box Run this program as administrator 

 

Add you entire Prepar3D folder to your Exclusions Zone of your Ant virus Software.  

 

Before you Add any Software,  Make sure Prepar3D is running perfect and smooth and you are happy with it before you go any further 

 

 

Installing 3rd Party Software...........

 

Educate yourself and on what software is and is not compatible before you purchase or Install. 

 

Save all your Prepar3D Add On Downloads (installers) in the same folder (create a folder)  for quick access 

 

Don't use the Windows in-built 'extract' feature when Extracting a Download.  Use 7zip or WinZip to Extract Downloads "Decompress"  Zipped folders

 

Disable your uac User Account Control.  Drag down to Never Notify and Click save 

 

Add the Installer to your Excluded Process of you Anti virus Software.

 

Right Click and Run the Installer as administrator.

 

Never Install Software into ProgramFiles(86)   Pick anywhere else. 

 

Its not a must but try and Install your Add On's on the same Drive as Prepar3D (just for handiness sake) by creating folders and Installing there     

 

Install 1 Software at a time.  If you are Installing Utilities or any other program that runs when Prepar3D start, Insure you are also running this as administrator (same process as above)     

 

Load Prepar3D and make sure everything is Ok and smooth before you Install the next one.  If you have any problems at that stage Issues are easier to Diagnose and sort out  

 

Keep your settings low until you find a stable sweet spot,  then if you like pump them up a bit. 

 

 

Tips......

 

Create Tex Documents on you Desktop and Save all your Licence and Key Information.  Right Click anywhere on your Desktop,  Click New,  Click Tex Document.  Name it 

 

Understand and Familiarize your self and make Shortcuts of these folders to your Desktop for easy access. 

 

ProgramData ► Lockheed Martin ► PreparD v3

 

AppData ► Roaming ► Lockheed Martin ► PreparD v3

   

AppData ► Local ► Lockheed Martin ► PreparD v3

 

 

The bottom line.

 

Be realistic with settings.  Start Slow, 1 Installer at a time.  Run Prepar3D and your Software as administrator.  Don't use the Migration Tool :smile:

One question: do I install all sceneries outside the P3D folder?

I have Flytampa, UK2000, Aerosoft, ORBX, FRScenerydesigns...

Orbtx  Currently you have to Install Orbtx Products inside the folder only  

 

FlyTampa.  You can Install FlyTampa Airports outside the folder by teasing the Installer,  you can do this by creating a folder and putting a Copy of Prepar3D.exe in this folder, The Installer will pick it up and Install there. 

 

You will have to Add the Scenery to Prepar3D,  by clicking into world, Scenery and adding it that way,   you will also have to add a Path= way to your FlyTampa effects in ProgramData\LockheedMartin\Prepar3D

 

To be honest, if your not comfortable doing this i would just Install into your main Prepar3D folder.    

 

 

 

UK2000  You can Install all UK2000 Airports this same way,  they will Install into a Folder of your choosing without having to tease the Installer.   

 

Aerosoft and Flightbeam Airports work best Inside the folder.   

 

FRScenerydesigns  I don't have any of these Sceneries,  what's the full name of this?? 

 

At the end of day you can eventually get around most obstacles when Installing stuff,  But you are better off waiting for Genuinely Compatible Outside the folder Installers and just go and Fly  :smile: 

 

So if in doubt,  let a Shout and Install into the Prepar3D folder
