Ok to upload AFCADs of addon airports?

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

Over the past two years I've spent much, much time editing airport AFCADs so that they either a.) are more updated and accurate, b.) have more parking so that aircraft don't bleed into where they are not assigned, and c.) crosswind technique. Perhaps the most rigorous airport that I've worked on is the default O'Hare, which when in default, doesn't have many gates and only operates two runways at a time, which is quite the load for an airport like O'Hare. I'd like to share some of that work with others, but I'm concerned that I may require permission from the original creator of a scenery when adding AFCADs or airport.bgl files that originate from an addon scenery (i.e., I updated my hometown airport of KAUS by extending taxiway alpha, updating gate usage, adding more overnight parking, and adding a generic new infill terminal).

Must I contact such a creator even when uploading just a modified AFCAD of their work? I wouldn't want to get into trouble which is why I ask.

But for sure I can upload AFCADs of default airports to which I have many (SEA, SFO, ORD, etc.).

When starting with default airports and scenery, uploading your work, so long as it remains freeware, should be fine.

If your work involves any part of add-on scenery/airports by other authors, then you should get permission of the add-on's author.  If the add-on that you started with is payware, then any uploading of changes is likely a violation of the EULA and copyright law, unless your are given permission to do so.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Sounds good. Hopefully said authors are still alive and/or using the same email :P . Thanks.

Hello,

There are a number of AFCADs uploaded to the Library that are edits of payware AFCAD/Scenery files, however, as mentioned above, you must check the EULA of the product you're editing to see if uploading your edit is allowed or not .If the EULA doesn't clearly cover this point then you may contact the author(s) of the original payware files and ask for their permission.
