Simple Sun Mod Help

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am unable to make simple sun mod run as expect inn my Prepar3D v3.2. I always have an awkward sun and lens flare effects... And none of the beautiful sun effects I have seen on videos and screenshots.

Luckily someone here has "cracked the code" and is willing to help. At this point I don't know what I am doing wrong... Could the RSP v1.1 be the culprit?

Cheers,

Luís

Best regards, Luís

Hi Louis,

i have the simple sun mod and it looks as expeczed. I dont use the RSP but using reshade. So did you delete the shader cache of P3D? Further could you post so,e screenies of your problem.?

Glad you replied Mickeyj... Your QualityWings Simulations BAe 146 video showing the sun simple mod was one of the motives that made me try this mod (been using REX effects for ever). I am using RSP and Shade... Maybe I am not configuring the cameras right? I am also using EZCA, I will post some screenshots ASAP.

I would do these steps first.

Leave all the custom shader mods.

Clear the shader cache (go to C:\Users\<YOU>\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v23\Shaders) delete that folder, it will be rebuild when P3D start the next time.

Install the sunmod. Put the textures into the main texture folder and the suneffect.cfg into C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 back up the original file.

start P3D.

see what happens

I have religiously followed all of your suggestions including restoring the backup from RSP, the backup from shade, cleared the cache and reinstalled simple sun mod... Unfortunately I got the exact same result. This time I don't even tried to set the effect on the VC, only exterior.

Please check:

With Shade + RSP + Sky textures mod

Shade and RSP deactivated + default Sky textures (only mod is REX clouds and sun simple mod of course)

Hi Luis,

i checked the screenies. But what exactly is it that you missing and what you find awkward? To me it seems that HDR and the lensflare effect are disabled. Now what you can check as well is the REX4 texture installation configuration. Be sure that "Sun/Effect" is deselected otherwise the simple sun mod textures will be overriden everytime you make changes with REX4.

If you want to see/have the lensflare effect in the cockpit you have to enable that inside camera.cfg. The camera.cfg is located int he same folder as the prepar3d.cfg. In the camera definition of the virtual cockpit you must se the "ShowLensflare" from false to true.

I will post some screenies too.

I played araound a bit and i noticed that when i switched off the HDR the lensflare was gone for some reason. I got it back when i reinstalled it. In addition to the main texture folder i put the sun mod files in to the scenery\world\texture folder. I know theses files dont belong there but after that the lensflare was back. Maybe P3D screws things up.

But they are enabled! Since my last install REX is only doing clouds... Nothing more.

Regarding the cockpit camera.cfg are you editing

[CameraDefinition.201]

Title = EZCA VC cam

and

[CameraDefinition.001]

Title = Cockpit

To have the desired effects outside the cockpit (exterior views using EZCA cams) do you also need to modify

[CameraDefinition.202]

Title= EZCA World cam

and

[CameraDefinition.203]

Title= EZCA Aircraft cam

Is lensflare enabled in P3D ?

Please check the provided pic.

Good to know... will try the mod with that as well.

Hi,

yes you have to edit/add the command ShowLensflare=true in all cam definitions where you want to see the lensflare. As your sun looks as intended you might miss the ShowLensflare command.

No joy! :sad: The representation of the sun is always awkward, showing several circular layers and always without the lens flare effect.

I will be uploading a video showing the undesired results.

Do you have the original shaders that has been backed up by RSP? For me it looks like a shader problem. Try to restore them. Oh did you try REX4 sun testures and effects? I suggest you try it out.

Yes I have all the backups... RSP and Shade. I have done the test without any mod and with the default files (backed up by RSP and Shade). The results are always the same no matter what. The following video can confirm the previous photos. As you can see the sun as nothing to do with the desirable look and there is no lens flare effect at all.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxru_hUFUsxeYVVuZFVjeUNqQWM

Didn't tried REX Sun mods yet cuz I was going to give sun simple mod a shot... BTW I come from a fresh clean Prepar3D install... From all of my add-ons only have a few installed... Just using FTX Global + FTX LC EU & NA+ FTX Vector + FTX Trees + PercipitFX + Pilots 2010 Mesh + RSP + Shade + REX + ASN + EZCA + Mytraffic v6.0a + Ships ai. My Prepar3D.cfg has zero user made tweaks.

This is becoming quite a traumatic experience lol... I tried default sun, REX sun and simple mod sun and was unable to have lens flare with the default F22 no matter what (both interior and exterior).

Default F22 video: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bxru_hUFUsxeNlZuSFZHRHFTSTg

Tried the Rex Sun with another aircraft (A320) and was able to have lens flare inside the cockpit. Was unable to have the effect with exterior views though.

Here is my edited cameras.cfg file. Am I doing it right?

After installing REX sun I installed simple sun mod over it and it worked, no more weird rendering of the sun. But only have lens flare inside cockpit and was never able to reproduce that raibow effect simple sun mod have !?!?! Check the following videos.

Glad you sorted all out and it is working. I think something screwed up in the shaders in the first place. I had the weired effect too when i switched off the HDR but couldnt reproduce it after it worked again. I also tried your Simstarter settings as well as the RSP 1.1. I use the RSP 1.1 together with Reshade and i have to say it comes real close to real.
