Has Anyone found any good Nvidia Inspector Settings?

Recommended Posts

I've been playing around with Nvidia Inspector and Flight School... but have not yet found any anti-aliasing settings that appear to have a positive impact.  Actually, specifying the BIOShock compatibility mode with different MS and TSS modes does make a difference; but also results in artifacts.  I tried Jordan King's recommendations... but didn't see any improvement.  Has anybody had success?

And yes,  I do have the fsc.exe associated with my profile.

Did you add the profile to the application? I did and I saw a huge improvement in his video.

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

Jordan's profile worked for me, FSC looks awesome. I added the standard vsync and 1/2 refresh rate to fix the screen tearing in full screen mode.

After taking a harder look, I agree that the 4x Transparency Super Sampling does add some additional relief from the jaggies.  All in all, Nvidia Inspector helps a little ; but the results are no where near what it provides for FSX.  Unfortunately, it looks like it's impossible to push the multi-sampling above 2x in the default profile... you can if you select the BIOShock compatibility mode; but then you get a strange shadowy zone superimposed over areas of the scenery.

Despite the obvious problems, I'm somewhat encouraged by what I see in Flight School - it looks like it survived the 64-bit conversion without any major breakdowns.  I gotta wonder what they were thinking with the colors and lighting though... somebody must have been drunk when they were tweaking the sky textures... weirdest thing I've ever seen.  It's like neon blue at the horizon that quickly turns to a sort of matte grey overhead.  I guess they figured nobody would notice when they turned the lighting up to "11".  Really strange choices for a sim that otherwise seems to work pretty good.

Agreed, NV Inspector does very little for this, can't believe they released looking this bad with the jaggies and shimmering it has, MS Flight was released years ago, it looked awesome out of the box

Could the anti-aliasing issues be down to HDR?

X-Plane for instance has an aliasing setting especially for HDR mode, normal aliasing just wont work.

Effectively, normal aliasing works for standard 8 bit per channel output. Simply put, aliasing a bright pixel at 255 | [(255 / 2) = 128] will give a smooth surrounding pixel.

If you try the same thing with an HDR pixel, say 1024 in brightness [(1024 / 2) = 512. Twice as bright as the output can display, so the user doesn't see any change, both pixels will be clamped to the maximum 255. Still jaggy.

You can even see this in high end rendering applications (used for movie effects etc). If HDR is in use, a special HDR aliasing needs to be adopted.
