Update RC4.3 to match the actual existing runways.

I have just ran the latest makerwys.exe from Peter Dowsons website. I put the file in the main FSX directory but the r4.csv file in RC4.3 did not update but the r5.csv in the FSX folder did update. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem so that I have the correct runway listing in RC4.3?

Unless you are on a networked client to an FS host you should not be running make runways directly in your FSX folder answering no to the are you on a network prompt..

 

Run the RC scenery rebuild from its application (be sure RC is set to run as admin either by modifying a shortcut to it or right clicking on rcv4.exe. (If you run FS9 as this will have to be repeated starting the rebuild from within the second rc folder you set up for FS9.)).

 

Be sure you give the correct path to your FSX or FS9 (or P3D) folder when asked by the scenery rebuild prompts.

 

RC executes makerunways.exe and when that finishes and you OK it will copy r5.csv (which you say did update) to its rcv4 or rcv4x data folder as r4.csv. (Your r4.csv then becomes a duplicate of r5.csv.) It will then update a4.csv (the airport calculated center coordinates) from r4.csv.

 

If you still have trouble you can run run makerwys directly in your FSX/FS9 folder, Then start the RC scenery rebuild answering yes to the network question and giving the correct path to your FS version. It will then start by copying r5.csv to  rcv4/data folder as r4.csv then build a4.csv from that.

 

Be sure you OK all of the prompts  and wait a few seconds before exiting rc to allow the HD writing to catch up.

 

To check on whether everything updated right click in your FS folder r5.csv and note the time and date and size listed in its properties. Now do the same for r4.csv in rc's data folder. It should match within a couple of seconds.  a4.csv should show a modification date a few seconds later allowing it to get built by RC.

 

The r4.csv file in your FS folder is not longer used,

Thanks for your help. I achieved partial success.

 

As an example KSEA and KTPA have all of the correct runways which previously they did not. However KCLT does not have the 18/36C runways. PAFA did not update at all but shows 2L in the gate box when you open the controller info dialog box. This is the correct runway but the info is in the wrong location.

 

Any ideas?

It sounds like a possibly corrupted field sequence for PAFA.

 

Try this:

 

In your FS folder there is a huge file called runways.txt. This is a log of all of the makerwys operations. Right click on it and open it in Word, not Excel or other spreadsheet. Notepad can not handle it. Search for Airport KCLT until you get to the last section. Look at the runway list. Do the same for PAFA.

 

Except for default scenery, each add-on will have a deletion section followed by the scenery elements section. They may not be adjacent. The last section has priority. The start of each section has the path to it and make sure it is correct.

I have the latest MakeRwys.EXE  Version 4.697, by Pete Dowson. If the file is corrupted then how do I fix the problem?

The information you gave me did not totally make sense in terms of what I need to do next if I have the latest MakeRwys.exe file.

 

Should not this file have all of the runways for each airport?

Everything appears detected. Now reply with the several lines from r5.csv in your fs folder and the same lines from r4.csv in your rcv4/data folder. Again, use just wordpad, not Excel, to open those files. Search first for KCLT then PAFA.

Notice the two sources match. Here's how to decode the runway numbers in the second field. There are four numbers:

 

Rwy is nnn for runway number, then 0, 1=L, 2=R, 3=C, 4=W (water)
  Note that runways designated N, NE, etc are denoted by runway
  numbers over 36, as follows:
    37 =  N-S
    38 =  E-W
    39 =  NW-SE
    40 =  SW-NE
    41 =  S-N
    42 =  W-E
    43 =  SE-NW
    44 =  NE-SW
    45 =  N
    46 =  W
    47 =  NW
    48 =  SW
    49 =  S
    50 =  E
    51 =  SE
    52 =  NE

 

so PAFA,0192, 0 is nothing here, 19 is the runway number, and 2 is the right symbol so this is runway 19R.

 

For RC runways 1500 feet or shorter are excluded from data to avoid a conflict with "psuedo runways" used in a technique to make non-parallel runways available to be simultaneously active so the PAFA water runway is not shown.

The actual runways at PAFA are 2/20 so isn`t those runway numbers incorrect? Should it not read PAFA 0202 for the last entry for runway 20 ?

 

The actual runways at KCLT include a center runway. Would that not mean there should be a KCLT, 0363 entry added as opposed to just two entries?

Your runway designator changes at PAFA are caused by the real airport magnetic deviation changing and the magnetic heading changes requiring new designators.

 

Make runways pulls the data from your installed scenery to insure data matches what you see (and taxi over, etc) in FS, not real world.

 

Your solution would be to search for free or payware add-on scenery of recent design and install followed by running the scenery rebuild again.

 

Designators and magnetic deviation can be changed using ADE which will then build a new airport scenery.

 

I'll check later today to see what might be in the libraries already designed.

Here is a freeware kclt airport updated this last January on flightsim.com. It has all four runways and should have updated designators:

I assume you are using FSX. If not, i look up FS9 versions.

My only fear in doing this is that I have only ORBX scenery installed and I know some of the airport addons cause problems with ORBX.

You can always in the scenery library settings disable the entries.

 

The only scenery caution not affected by this are some specific projects that modify ABxxxxxxand APxxxxxx scenery files which are shared (each one covers a geographic "tile" area) that can mess up other scenery depending on those. One such project is the Hellenic Greek Airports one. The are some things that can not be edited with exclusions and overlays so the developers modify the defaults.
