Fan sound even in Cold&Dark

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I fly happily the 737NGX (recently purchased) under P3D v.3 (and Windows10).

I am puzzled by just one strange behavior:

-- always, even when in Cold & Dark conditions, in the cockpit there is a rather loud sound of fans (or something similar).

I tried different Sound settings (in the FMC), but no change.

I wonder whether this is normal, or not.

Thank you for comments and advice,

Giorgio

It is normal if the recirculation fans are on... oh, I just read cold and dark.  Try pressing Q twice.  No power no sounds unless you have something like GSX making external sounds.

Hi, Dan

thank you very much for replying to my help request.

Cycling the Q key merely toggles sound on/off, but the loud fan sound remains unchanged.

No GSX or particular additions here (only FSUIPC, Orbx for sceneries).

I even switched off all what was switchable, besides being in Cold&Dark conditions...!

Obviously, no such thing happens with other default/payware planes (Cirrus SR22T).

I shall wait for suggestions for some time, then a ticket will be in order...

Thank you again, and whoever might contribute further suggestions,

Giorgio

...and is a well known fix to an equally well known FSX and P3D sound system issue.

Obviously, those aircraft are entirely different aircraft and are not a reasonable comparison.

As far as your issue goes, I'm guessing it might be related to one of the air or power carts outside, if they're enabled (which I think they're present in the C/D scenario). The carts themselves make noise, and the AC cart will also move air through the aircraft, which will also have an associated fan-like sound to it.

Another idea is that, if you're logged into a network, most AI aircraft on that network will make noise.

SOLVED

after a number of in-depth tests, involving all sound files, I discovered that

1- the noise problem in C&D conditions remains even after removing ALL .wav files from the PMDG737NGX 800 folder, leaving just the sound.cfg file.

2- by analyzing all other existing sound files in P3D, I found that the offending sound file is located in the folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\Sound

It named  “ fuel_pump.wav”

Disabling it cured the problem entirely.

Clearly an initialization problem.

I hope this can be of help to others.

Very interesting. Thanks for reporting the solution!

Huh, I thought that was a 737 sound - I guess I'll have to disable it.

Good find

So is this the fix to the well known FSX/P3D sound system issue?  Or is this unrelated?

Not clear.  I can load any NGX, load the NGX CLDRK panel.  After initialization all sounds go away. Nada.  There is a reason why you had the P3D fuel pump sound but it's not clear what that reason is.... still interesting.

Mine is quiet after  it initializes too.
