I have just installed a new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 and now want to upgrade

the CPU (And motherboard if necessary.) The MB I have now is a ASUS P6T SE

• CPU Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater

• Memory 8GB+ RAM

• Video Output Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output

• USB Ports 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port

• OS Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer

Is your i7-920 overclocked? My system is almost identical to yours with my 920 overclocked to 4Ghz. Overclocking will give a significant, free performance gain and you should get 4Ghz comfortably with decent cooling - many people have gone above that without too much trouble. I would overclock and then test your system with the SteamVR Performance Test software (http://store.steampowered.com/app/323910/) which will give you a good indication of how well your current setup would run with VR. I would certainly try this before paying for a system upgrade.

Thanks guys,

@ martin-w, around £300.

@ vortex681, Yes the i7-920 is overclocked and I get 4Ghz also.

Will try the SteamVR test later.
