Transitioning for 737NG and Mike Ray Training Syllabus

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just ordered the PMDG 777 (my favorite airliner in real life). I have previously been flying the PMDG 737NG. Are the controls that much different as they are both Boeing? I am wondering if I should ecpect a steep learning curve?

Also I have the Mike Ray Training Syllabus book for the 737 which I think really helped learn how to fly the aircraft. Would it be helpful to get his 777 book? Or is there a lot of overlap? Not sure if anyone has both books?

edit...

duh.. I just realized there is no 777 book! 757, 767, 747, but no 777.

Please disregard... my bad.

The aircraft itself it much more complex than the 737, however workload for both pilots is greatly reduced due to automation. If you use FS2 Crew SOP3 with the 737 NG, you will get bored quick in the 777.

They're similar in many was but as David said the T7 is so automated that it's almost easier to fly than a small Cessna in my opinion.

The FMC setup is pretty close to that of the 737 as well as some of the autopilot functions, but a lot of other functions are more automated and not require as much button pushing and switch clicking.

No. Do Tutorial 1, read the Introduction, and become familiar with the FMC. Both the Tutorial 1 and Introduction highlight a lot of the differences between the T7 and the NGX. Just remember, you control the speed during the approach. If you are proficient with the NGX you should have no problem at all.
