A few things whilst using trial beta

Recommended Posts

Really enjoying the trial (day 6) - great program, very impressed and will definitely be purchasing. A few things...

One thing I can't seem to get to work is requesting the last transmission - tried all the variations but no response from ATC.

This next one is a bit odd as it is not consistent - a couple of times I have had to restore the PTT joystick button to my selection made during a previous session - it has reset back to the first joystick in the list button 0 after restarting the app. I can't tell if the button selection has actually reset as I set it to button 0 anyway, but definitely the joystick selection is not saving - well, not every time.

A question - I often fly circuits to practice precision approaches, so not VFR. Can you advise how I can use Pilot2ATC in this scenario if possible i.e. getting clearance for takeoff and landing.

A couple of feature requests:

1. The ability to direct sound output from Pilot2ATC to a selected sound device to hear ATC through headset adding realism. I'm so used to this that now having ATC through my speakers merged in with the aircraft sounds is not as good.

2. In config option to have PTT button play sound on press and release (I'm thinking of mic click wav)

And finally... I'm a bit unsure about the radio static sound file usage - is this for playing over chatter files? or is this for playing whilst TTS voices are speaking? Or something else? If it is not for playing whilst TTS voices are speaking then I'd love this to be a feature if achievable as it would add greater realism to the ATC transmissions.

Thanks

Hi Darren.  Thanks for trying the software.  Looks like some of your issues are bugs and others will need to go on the future feature list.

1)Repeat last transmission not working is likely a bug I'll have to work out.

2)The resetting of the Joystick assignment is also a bug.  I plan on changing how that works.  For now, the work-around is to check the assignment any time you go to that first tab in the Config window.  The fix will be to open a separate window to make changes.  That's on the bug list already.

3)To practice IFR approaches, the easiest way is to take off VFR and once airborne, call Tower or Approach control and request the type of approach you want either with or without vectors.  There is still work needed on the Missed Approach interaction, but you can do a touch and go or go-around and fly out VFR and repeat the request and approach.

4) Feature Request.  #1 will go to the future feature list.  #2 is also not there, but there is the Speech Recognized tone you can set so you will know if your speech was recognized when the UI is not visible.  Also, #2 is there visually, just not with the tone.  The on-screen PTT button changes colors when you press the PTT button on the joystick.  So another good idea for an enhancement.  Thanks

5) The radio static sound file and volume are indeed for the interaction with the TTS ATC controllers.  Just set the volume up and crackle away.

Hope this helps and thanks for the suggestions.

Many thanks Dave for your reply - most helpful. Have now purchased the product - was very useful being able to trial it first.

Hi Dave I'm trying to practice IFR approaches as previously mentioned and I'm requesting departure from the tower but I get an unhandled exception (see below for detail). I have no flight plan, the VFR radio button is selected and I speak "Speedbird 36 ready for departure runway zero eight" which is successfully recognised (I hear the tone) but immediately after, the exception dialog is displayed.

This reproduce-able every time.

Thanks

Darren

Darren,

I will look into this for the next update.  As a workaround, try filing a VFR or possibly an IFR flight plan from/to your local airport.

Is there any update on this one? It would really make things easier.

Thank you

Assuming that you are using a USB headset, this is done through FSX.  I have the USB headset as the default sound device. Under sound settings in FSX send sounds to the speakers and voice to the default.

TJ,

That's definitely a good work around for now if using FSX or P3D.

The next update will allow the user to set Pilot2ATC voice output to any available Sound Output device, or just leave it on the default.  That should help the X-Plane users.

For anyone wondering how to keep the sound from muting when you lose focus on Prepar3D, here's the fix from their web site:

When the application loses focus, sound is muted by default. Disabling this setting requires editing the Prepar3D.cfg file.

  1. Locate the Prepar3D.cfg file which can be found in the %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 folder.
  2. Right click file and click "Open", "Edit", or if prompted choose notepad or your other favorite text editor
  3. In the [uSERINTERFACE] section, add MUTE_ON_LOST_FOCUS=0
  4. To enable muting on lost focus, change it to MUTE_ON_LOST_FOCUS=1
  5. Save the newly updated Prepar3D.cfg

For the FSX users, I don't believe there's a way to do this.  If you know of one, please let us know.

Regards,

Dave

Yeah, TJ's solution did work and suddenly it was a much better experience to use the software. However it's a bit messing around to change it all the time, so the next update feature is a defo big welcome one!

That is great news.  I am looking forward to that feature.
