The price differential actually makes a lot of sense to me. FSX is a static platform. It requires far less work on the part of a 3rd party app developer.

 

On the other hand, LM is constantly tinkering with P3d, which triggers a reaction from 3rd party developers.

Withe release of Aerofly 2 and eventually P3d V4, XP11 and DTG Flight Simulator, I suspect that eventually 3rd party developers will be totally overwhelmed and probably not even produce comparable FSX versions of their addons.

If you have flown in real life, you will love AS 16. If you haven't, you might wonder why so many are raving about it.

 

Ahh, that might be the reason why... I have been flying the A2A PA 24 with AS16, it's the closest thing I have experienced to the real thing! The Q400 is also amazing with AS16

 

 

Totally agree and definitely care too.  For the first time, you actually do have to think about the weather along your route of flight.  Not even ASN required that before.  You could walk away from your computer and come back for descent.  Not any more.

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet about AS16 is the very realistic looking haze layer. Looks exactly like what I see in real life flying, in the summer, when the humidity is high. Love it!!!!

With AS16 + Rex Texture Direct + Rex Soft clouds (not using AS16 for clouds per say), can you still get the 3D rotation and movement effects that AS16 has to offer.. or do you have to use AS16 textures to do that?

 

Sounds as if a lot of people prefer REX over the AS16 textures..

 i think hifi got off to a bit of a rough start, there were some bad screenshots around and some questionable choices with their textures for sure... they since released a couple updates, i actually prefer the ASCA clouds over rex soft now since ASCA hotfix 3.. looks great and really takes advantage of the dynamic stuff which adds a lot of nice variety, they added like 5 or 6 softish sets as i understand it. 

 

anyway it is certainly a highly subjective topic, surely to be mixed up more whenever sky force arrives

ASCA is required on each system that runs Prepar3D, ASCA requires a registration for each computer. I run seven computers, I'm not paying $30.43 ($213.01) just to run clouds on one flightdeck.

 

Here are their requirements, and I quote.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Windows Vista or later
Microsoft Flight Simulator X with SP2 or Acceleration OR FSX:Steam Edition OR Prepar3D v3.2+
ASCA works with both FSX and P3D platforms on a single license
2GHZ processor or better
2GB RAM or better
1GB available hard drive space for standard resolution content
2GB available hard drive space for optional HD resolution content
Minimum monitor resolution to access all user interface features: 1280×800
Requires an online internet connection for normal usage.  Online activation is mandatory.  License is valid for one computer/installation only.  Moving software to another computer will deactivate the previous computer.  10 automatic reactivations are permitted.  Multiple-computer installations will require an individual ASCA license for each computer that it is installed on.

 

 

I also don't like the fact that it also requires an ONLINE INTERNET CONNECTION for normal use... Anyone remember a company that went out of business and left its customers out in the cold???. I'm not saying this will happen again, but the possibility exists, then what?.

ok, I see your problem with that many systems.

 

The online connection for ASCA would be for license verification I believe although AS16 requires it for weather data. You run an unique system, I would venture a guess you run into this type of issue frequently.  So are you buying 7 copies of the weather program also? And seven copies of P3D?

I don't have software that deactivates itself when run on the same flightdeck on a different computer, I would say it's extremely rare. Even L/M, setup prepar3d's Multichannel so you can run multiple copies of P3D on numerous computers on one flightdeck, but only one copy of P3D needs to be registered in order for "all" copies to work together. As far as seven copies of AS16, as I said, I'm waiting on REX.

 

If third party software companies want to work with FSX and FS9 gaming software, then so be it.... Most don't run Wideview at this level of gaming and they don't have the option of running multichannel. However, If companies want to make the jump into simulation (remember the big EULA discussion) and support P3D or better... They need to have a better answer than you have to pay for each copy used if its on one flightdeck. We are talking about simulation software now, not gaming software.

 

I have no problem with HiFi, I've think their products are top notch and I've used them since day one just about. I also read their requirement on ASCA, I purchased one just to support the company and see what the hype was all about. I like the look, just can't see paying more just because I'm using an expanded setup. If ASCA ever finds a way to allow multichannel use via P3D3 and/or wideview, I'm in.

 

In the meantime, I hope REX has what I need and I hope I won't be in the same position of having to pay for multiple copies for one flightdeck.

ok, now I see where you are coming from Mike and I quite agree. The difference between simulation and gaming widens when you are running complex multichannel hardware. I have no insight but have you contacted HiFi back channel to see if they have a better setup for professional (as opposed to gaming) customers. If not, they might at least start to consider that as a viable market.

You know what Vic, I have not and shame on me for not doing so. Seeing how flight sim is evolving and expanding that's not a bad idea. Is there a particular email address or contact person at HiFi that would deal with this type of situation, only ask because I notice you're beta guy?.
