Whether to weather unreal real weather ....

Dear Pilots and Meteorologists,I recall a thread some time back on this subject but it's possible it wasn't even in this forum, I suppose; I can't find it, anyway. I always fly with FS 'real weather', continually updated by cable. For a couple of months, though, I have tended to find that whatever the weather loaded by the sim, I have a layer of poor visibility below 1200 feet (approx). Is there some setting in the FS9.CFG file that overrides real weather in this respect, and which I need to change? Or something in the 'user-defined weather' settings that overrides 'real weather'. Or is the world simply covered in smog these days? I blame global warring, epileptic tree frogs, aggressive Arctic fauna, teenagers burning elephant dung in the Kalahari, Mongolian Yak flatulence, Welsh singing and George W. Bush. But can anyone give me a definitive solution or am I destined to plunge into mist on arrival for ever more? It feels just silly in the Caribbean on a nice sunny day. I don't have a registered version of FSUIPC, so it's nothing I've screwed up there. Have you tried Active Sky V in combination with Flight Environment? FS Default Weather looks rather "bleh" compared to this add-on. Nothing can get you as close to the real deal at the moment.

Hi Mark,We call it FS9 Haze and it is a built in feature of FS04. Either way, FSUIPC is not going to clear it. As stated, one suggestion is to use ASV. We have the option to turn that haze Off. Luckily, real weather usually arrives with some degree of limited viz.That said, I have not always seen this layer, as I said in my first post; not to the extent I see it regularly now, anyway, it's almost like fog. Always going to be subjective, isn't it, aerdt? To me, I see little different there to the form of clouds I achieve. I post a couple of recent screenies that I have to hand, below.I think the only real test would be similar viewpoints in similar weather conditions using different setups. But that would be a pig to organise. One thing you might try is setting FS to clear and no weather - fly a few flights with shutting down and rebooting the computer a couple times.FS has a very bad practice of not purging cache files, only adding to them. At times the program / scenery seems to get stuck in one mode of operation and only clearing out everything gets the sim to reset properly.I know the scenery.dat files are the temporary scenery cache files (be very careful about removing .DAT files - some with other names are critical for some gauges).I don't know which files hold the weather scenery cached settings.Might try deleting / moving the .WX files for your flights - especially your default flight, UI generated flight.WX & Previous flight.WX

I fly regular multiplayer at DC-3 Airways with fifteen or so other pilots and I'm usually the only one sitting there in the fog when all the others are taxiing to the active in much better viz. 1. Dark Moment, what is the twin you are flying in the second screenshot?2. Screenshots are inadequate to convey the effect of ActiveSky. In my view, the really important feature of this program is setting up different weather systems that you can see in the distance, and fly into or avoid. In the default weather, the only weather system you can see is the one you're in, and while you're in it, it seems to be everywhere.

Well, haze is something that happens ESPECIALLY on a clear day. Haze usually develops in the summer and early fall. During my flying lessons, I learned and observed first hand that the visibility is often far less on a clear summer day, compared to a cold winter day - just because of the haze. Many times my lesson had to be postponed, because the haze was that thick that it wouldn't even qualify for VFR.Hope this helps..

Mark,The 'fog' in clear weather issue is addressed by using a replacement weather.dll - i found one at fsnordic by Sami Ylism

Hi Mark,That is NOT the FS04 haze I wrote about, based on this ss. In FSUIPC turn Weather Settings Off and use the Clear Weather button. Jim,Sorry for the confusion - I did not mean to mix the two issues.
